Samsung PN42A450 - 3D TV
So, I bought one of these TVs in September. When I bought it I noticed it said it was 3D but the salesman didn't really know about it and I sort of forgot about it. Anyway, I've been checking this out online and it looks pretty cool. You hook up a comp to the tv, it reads some software, and then converts the picture to 3D. Of course you need special Samsung glasses to see it.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone has this all set up? On YouTube it showed some dude playing Madden in 3D, that would be pretty cool.

I got the 50 inch set and I saw that option, but since I don't have the software or the glasses I haven't tried it.
Were you able to find the glasses and software? What does that cost?

One thing I learned from the BluRay/HD-DVD battle, if Porn hasn't picked it up yet, it isn't going to fly.

I haven't entirely figured it out myself, but I'm looking at getting some kind of 3D setup. I really don't want to compromise 1080P for it though.
http://www.mtbs3d.com/ is a great resource on 3D. Really the biggest issue is drivers. iz3d I think was universal 3D drivers out now as far as I can tell that should work, also tri-def (DDD) http://www.ddd.com/ provides a package (but you have to buy each game's drivers seperately). nVidia is soon going to resume supporting 3D but you'll have to buy their glasses and their driver will only work with Vista. If you can, I'd buy your glasses seperately and see if you can use the iz3d drivers.
Let me know how you do it, if it works.

I thought that was established by the VHS vs. Betamax wars.

Thanks for the info guys.
Not sure I'm going to go through all that for so few games and movies. Hopefully it gets more popular.

I'd suggest getting the iz3d demo driver and the old style red-blue lenses first perhaps. You can try out the 3d effect first, then decide if it's worth the plunge. I also found some demo screenshots once that you can view cross-eyed, but can't seem to find them now.

There are all kinds of 3d technologies out there and more to come. RealD has some cool products that will work on newer gen LCD displays. 3ality also has some good stuff coming out for production and display.
Went to a cool demo a week or so ago and watched the Panthers-Patriots Superbowl in 3D as well as some Nascar stuff. All pretty neat.
I believe there are a few features being shot here in Van over the next few months that will be in 3D. It is gimmicky but it is coming fast.

I don't see 3D as gimmicky at all (all though as far as the movies go, some of the content is). I see it as hugely better.
Also wanted to point out to KevanGuy that's it's not "so few games", it's most of them if you're using the iz3d drivers. The drivers work by intercepting OpenGL and DirectX calls, so most games will work, even if they're not officially supported. Since the game world is in 3D anyways, it's not that hard for the driver to provide you with two different views of it.
The current list of officially supported titles has 80 titles on it.

So wait, I have this TV and a PS3, so can I start gaming in 3D?
What do I have to start gaming in 3D, this sounds awesome.

I'm sure it was... but I was like 3 when that war was fought. Unlike Fotze at that age, I did not know what porn was.

Bump: I'll have it set up, if anyone wants to try it.
Bumpity bump! So I've acquired a 3D-ready TV, and my nVidia 3D glasses kit is on the way. KevanGuy or anyone else, let me know if you'd like to try them out. I'll bump this once more when I have them all set up.

Unfortunately, my left eye is a lazy eye which means I largely use one eye for seeing. Most 3D technologies are a real letdown for me because they require binocular vision.
