(So far, I like it better than Transmission. uTorrent in Windows was hella nice, so I'm probably biased... but speeds in Transmission seriously sucked for me.)

Transmission speed can be a bit of a killer at times. Thanks for the heads up.

I did. The problem with Vuze is it's coded in Java, which is completely unnecessary and incredibly resource-intensive (relatively speaking).
The attraction to uTorrent is that it's as lightweight as Transmission, but with usable speeds.

The awesome part about Vuze is the built in ability to search whatever torrent sites you want (customizable) from right inside the app. It automatically opens the torrent files and cleans them up after your download is completed.
Also the RSS feeds are awesome. You can subscribe to one for say a TV show, and everytime a new one comes out, it will automatically download.

They seem to have cleaned Vuze up since they rebranded from Azureus. It defaults to the "classic" interface, offers about a billion configuration options (which is both good and bad), and also allows for very tight controls on encryption and transmission functions. It also feels lighter, if that makes sense.
Overall, I'm very impressed with Vuze now. Never was very impressed with uTorrent or Transmission since they both seemed a bit unstable on my machines (uTorent in Vista, Tranmission on Mac). I use Vuze on both platforms now.
Edit:
Ok, I need to combat you on the Java quip. Unless you're talking about comparing Java to C, it's performance is on par with anything in the Microsoft stack (.NET -- shudder). I know of no other language that is as effective at deploying software across multiple platforms as Java is -- assuming you avoid Spring like the plague. Really, the achillies heel of the language is the lack of a solid GUI library.

I was comparing it to uTorrent, which is written in C++. I avoid Java applications like the plague, and never, ever, even install a Java interpreter on any machine I use unless I have no other choice. In the old days, the Microsoft VM was about as close as I would get to being a willing participant in the Java scene. Ever since Sun (and the courts) forced them to stop building their VM, and forced people to have to install the Sun JRE, I've recoiled even further.
For the record, I hate .Net applications with an equal fervor. I trust (more than Java) their ability to play nice with my other applications, though, just because the framework is built and maintained by the same people that build the OS.
Edit: Admittedly, a lot of my dislike of Java was formed in the old days when it first came out. It might have gotten a lot better since then, I'm just really picky about installing background services. Also, I don't have the slightest clue about how Java works with Mac. My assumption is that it also requires me to install a Mac-versioned Sun JRE. For all I know, it could very well be built into the Leopard OS and I don't even know.

You need to turn on the encryption settings, though that won't help much for the speed problem. Shaw downgrades all encrypted and torrent traffic by default.
Also, use the port forwarding test to verify you have your router setup properly. The program has a nicely done walk through on how to do that.

I can't get this uTorrent to work for some reason. I download it, run the .dmg file, put it in the applications folder, but when I click on the app in the folder, it's doesn't open. Anyone know what to do?

Have you run the NAT test?
Try that, if it fails, pick a new port and make sure forwarding of that port is enabled on your router.
