Thanks! Feature
I added a feature where you can thank someone for their post.
This is nice because you can thank someone without having to actually clutter up a thread with a post.
This also shows up in the new enhanced personal pages, you can see how much you or someone has thanked and been thanked.
Let me know what you think. I've restricted it to just the first post in a thread for now because I wanted to display the thanks after the post. I could open it to any post but seeing who thanked for a specific post would clutter things up too much I think, but I could also change it so the thanks would be invisible in the thread.

Can you thank only the thread post, or any post?
And yeah, where is this feature. I mean I see the counter to my left, but don't know how to 'work' it for others as of yet.

Click the Thanks button with the thumbs-up in the bottom right corner of the post you're thanking.

As of right now, you can only thank the person who created the thread (by clicking the "Thanks" icon beneath the initial post in the thread).
I think this is a pretty good idea. Kudos, indeed!

I see the potential for abuse so i would leave the thank you feature limited to the thread creators.

Ok, yeah I noticed that in searching around.
It made me think though. Are the mods worried at all that this may encourage more thread starting just to get more thanks, and we might see the overall thread quality go down? A bunch of crappy threads to wade through won't be fun.
Just a thought.

Yup, it already is. Besides, even if it wasn't it shows the tally below the post. So everyone would see you thanked yourself, LOL!

This punishes those who contribute by replying to threads, and unfairly rewards those who start threads.

If thats what they are worried about :
1. keep thanks as a private thing only the user can see
2. show the thanks for only your own posts
Then you can open it up to all posts

You can't thank yourself when you create a thread. That thank you button is not there

That's precisely what I'm saying by you can't abuse it, but even if you could it would show you.
Maybe I misunderstood what you meant to begin with.

This is a good idea. Take the iPhone thread for instance. A question is asked almost everyday and those that answer it deserve a thanks just as much as the thread starter. Plus it's like 3000 pages long.
Just blue-sky solutioneering here;
If you could replicate the red rep squares and have one added for every X thanks given to a user, that would be ideal. It's both private and public and identifies posters that contribute to the community without adding a whole crap load of stuff in threads.

Very true, that's possible. Though if it's a crappy thread it won't get much thanks.

True, though opening it to all would really make the thread distracting to read, varying posts having different amounts of thanks below it.

I'm not sure that's possible though, I'll play around with the settings a bit to see what it has.
I also didn't notice the stuff below the avatar, I'm not so sure I like that either.
