The CrossOver products make it possible to run Windows programs on Mac OS X and Linux without needing a copy or license for Windows itself.
So I am guessing you don't even need Windows, as it will run windows programs w/o windows.

I am wondering about the difference between the Games and Pro version.

The Games one is just optimized for running games. It's the same framework, just different configurations/settings.

Ahh, is there no way of changing the configurations within crossover itself? Or is it just to simplify for people?

I'm not sure, really. I have yet to use it... I'll be messing around with it tonight though. Might as well get them both today, since they're both free.

Ya I did. I am not even running a linux machine currently, but have been toying with the idea of putting it on my home desktop. This may cement the decision, now if I can only find the time....

Games and Pro are essentially the same thing, but the "Games" is released more frequently to integrate the changes in WINE (the program that Crossover is built upon) faster.

So if there is a feature that WINE integrates, the "Games" version will probably get that feature first, while the "Pro" version waits a bit longer to ensure stability.

If You want to run World of Warcraft, either will work. If you want to run a bleeding edge game just released, probably the "Games" version will be able to play it sooner.

It's been a long time since I have looked at Wine. Do they still have 'supported applications' that which are the only ones that work or is it all apps will work, your mileage may vary?

I haven't followed it in a long time, either. I had heard it was doing a lot better, but haven't followed up.

But for the price today, it is worth a look.
