Former prospect Devin DiDiomete signs with Rangers

I assumed he was still Flames' property.........I guess not.

New York offered agitating rookie winger Devin DiDiomete a bigger, better contract, and he's taken it.

Rangers assistant GM Cam Hope confirmed to me on Monday morning that DiDiomete, Steve Stamkos' bodyguard on a line in Sarnia last season, has agreed to a standard NHL entry-level contract.

DiDiomete has reported to Hartford. Just a few weeks ago, DiDiomete's AHL home was supposed to be the Syracuse Crunch.

We'll see if DiDiomete pans out, but his case is an odd one. He was not drafted, and the Blue Jackets offered him a tryout deal to come to the Traverse City prospects camp. He did well, and Columbus offered him a full AHL deal.

Talking to DiDiomete at the end of the prospects camp and before the Syracuse preseason opened, he was raring to come to the Crunch, no question about it. But a couple of days before he was expected to close out the AHL deal with Columbus, his agent said to sit tight.
