Default Program to record streaming audio?

Just wondering if anyone knows if such a program is available. I listen to an online station and it has some clips I'd like to keep for reference. Does anyone use a program to record streaming audio? It doesn't matter the format. I just want to be able to play it on my PC. Thanks in advance.

I use Audacity to do recording with, easy to use IMO.

The real question is will your audio driver support what you desire without having to do something like use a cable to plug your output into your mic, or put a mic by your speakers..

Using Windows XP I assume, if you double click the speaker icon at the bottom right (or Sounds and Audio Devices, Advanced), you should end up with a list of volume controls for the various audio devices.. Go to Options, Properties and change the radio button to Recording instead of playback, and see if there's an option for "What You Hear" or something like that.. make sure that's checked. Then if you click OK it should show you a list of recording devices and each has a select box, make sure the what you hear one is selected, and when you record with Audacity it should record what you are hearing.

If it's Vista, I'm not sure, but it should be similar...

If you don't have a What You Hear option, try playing around with the different recording devices, selecting each as your source audio is playing and trying to record to see if you get anything.

Hope that helps.

Thanks photon! Audacity seems like a great program. I've tried just about everything and I can't seem to get it to work. In the options, I've selected the correct recording device. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Heh! Nevermind - it looks like I will have to do the mic to the speakers. And I'll take it!

Haven't used it in years, but you might want to try WavePad.

START -> PROGRAMS -> ACCESSORIES -> ENTERTAINMENT -> VOLUME CONTROL.

Options -> Properties -> "Mixer Device" Tab, select appropriate soundcard driver.

Then press the "Recording" button (circle button).

Then select "Stereo Mix" as your recording source.

Load streaming audio program and start the audio stream.

Load Audacity and hit REC.

Don't be ######ed and put the mic in front of the speaker.

Sorry about being ######ed, but I don't have that option within volume control.
