Default Vista Problem - Power options.

Just got a new machine with Vista.

Anytime, I'm away from the computer for an hour or so and come back it's powered off to a blank screen. The power light is on but when I hit a key, move the mouse etc nothing happens. Have to reboot the bloody thing.

So when I go to control panel and try and change the "Power Options" it freezes the control panel (nothing happens, I can use the rest of the computer just not the control panel). Can't even close the window. Rest of Control Panel options work fine.

Go to task manager and try and close from there and it tells me the program is not responding followed by windows explorer is not responding.

Says it's waiting on Application name: svchost.exe

Virus Scan is clear and it's a new machine.

Anyone?

Doesn't help with your power options problem, but a bit of explanation on svchost

Thanks,

Finished up talking to technical service via phone. After failed system restores she gave me a caller record no. and said to take it back to Futureshop.

Should it be a straight replacement or will they fanny me about for a few weeks as per the stories you read about their customer service?

"Fanny me about"? I like that. Something else for the lexicon.

Prepare to meet the FANNY OF DOOM!

It depends, but it should be reasonably painless.
