Default Canadian TV in the USA?

is there anyway to get Canadian content south of the border? Grey market satalite, sling box; will live streaming ever be boarderless? ppv or on-demand?

Doesn't Direct TV or Dish have some...including the NHL Network? I have Comcast cable and I get some Canadian stuff. They said we were supposed to get NHL Network last Oct. but didn't. Anyway I remember the Panthers being really happy about being able to get the NHL net...I just can't remember the provider. And I believe you can get it online too.

How south of the boarder are you? And what exactly do you want?

Just purchase a Bell or Starchoice system using a Canadian address???

Unless you mean for free. The you have to go with a hacked FTA dish I guess.

sorry for the late reply, totally forgot i started this topic.

I am close to St Louis

if i purchase Bell or Starchoice, will i get a signal this far south?

i am willing to pay and would prefer exhausting legal methods, but I suspect my options will be zero with out going into "grey" areas; what is "a hacked FTA dish" ?

It would be for more than just NHL, otherwise Center Ice would suffice; I'd like TSN, CBC, RSN etc. all things Canadian

My friend is getting Bell for his place in Belize, so St. Louis should be no problem.

I have friends down here who have Bell or StarChoice... possibly both. They have it all purchased and programmed under a friend's Canadian address (the only way it will work, as I understand), but then they just physically put up the satellite at their house down here in California. After some calibrating and tweaking it works just fine. I'm pretty sure this is entirely legal.

Something you can do to get around webcast copyright restrictions is to use a proxy from the webcast's country of origin when you connect. *I do not know what the legal implications of this strategy are. It could be that any set-up designed to circumvent international copyright laws is illegal.* (Of course, getting caught is another thing entirely ... but I won't condone things that could get you in trouble).

I think it's safe to say that there are legal and illegal uses for proxies. THIS and THIS will help you if you do want to give it a try.

I'd guess Belize may be a problem going off of this footprint for the 91* satellite.

As you can see, Florida, Texas and California have become a problem getting all the transponders to work.

St. Louis should be good. I haven't been able to find a current footprint for the satellite at 82* for HD signals but Bell is sending up a new satellite very soon to replace the POS they currently have there, so HD should be good too.

I'd try and get a Bell account using a Canadian address and hire someone to set up the dish for you. The other way is too find a satellite shop in your area that will handle the dish setup and setup the account so you pay them every month. They should also be able to give you the info on signal strength in your area. You won't want to plug in your phone though, so I don't think you'll be able to order pay per view.

Oh, and if you want to set up the dish yourself, here's a dishpointer site that gives you the elevation-45.1*, Azimuth-174.1*, and dish skew-86.8* for St. Louis for a two satellite setup. You can type in your own address for fine tuning.
