Default PS3? 40 or 80 GB?

What should I get, is 80gb that much better? Or is 40gb fine?

One difference 80GB is backwards compatible with PS2 games while I don't believe the 40GB is. I'm able to play both God of War 1 & 2 with my 80GB PS3.

Good luck. Sony is replacing the 80gb backwards compatible with a cheaper 80gb non-backwards compatible 80gb ps3. the current 80gb is EOL until stocks run out or september, when the first of the "New" lower priced 80gb are coming out.

So really, unless having ps2 support on 1 box is really important, I'd just wait until either A. the newer 80 gb comes out, or b. pick up a 40gb one and upgrade the hdd with one of the larger laptop hdd's, or use an esata to sata connector to expand the hdd.

If you don't care about backwards compatibility the 40 GB model is fine. The 80 GB Has a few extra media ports, but it didn't sway my decision. 40 GB is enough for storage for myself right now, and it's quite easy to upgrade the HDD should you decide to.

I have a 40 GB and it's perfect for me, as I really have no desire to download a whole lot of anything from the PS store.
Blu-Ray, performance and everything else is the same.

Apparently that was a misunderstanding and the new 80GB will in fact be backwards compatible. Kind of makes me wish I would have waited cause I think what I got extra with the MGS4 bundle could have bought for cheaper than the extra $100.

Article or it's just another rumor.

All news articles with the search ps3 backwards compatible comes up with articles that indicate that the new cheaper 80gb that's dropping in September will be the gimped 40gb with a hdd upgrade. Which is fine, and I'll probably wind up picking one up, however there's no brass ring anymore.

Guess it's just PS1 games that will be playable on it.

All PS3 models can play PS1 games, which is nice. I need to find some FF games.

If your worried just about hard drive space buy the 40 GB model and stick in your own drive of bigger size. Your not stuck like with the 360 having to buy a overpriced hard drive only from Microsoft.

if backwards compatibility isn't important to you I'd say wait a week or two and get the new 80 gig (which will retial for the 40 gig price). If 80 still isn't enough, drop a little more money and just get a new hard drive and throw it in.
