Sunscreen
It's a fact of my life... I have to use it often and lots of it unless I hide inside and I get enough of inside 10 months a year here... but I'm so tired of buying little bottles @ $10-$15 each... I want like a bulk bucket-o-sunscreen... why is there no such thing... where can I find bulk sunscreen... like the bins at superstore, lol... someone out there must know where such a thing exists. I burn through those little bottles at a stupid rate during summer months.

I think the whole idea behind sunscreen packaging is the portability of it.

Alternative solution:
Step 1 - Go to home depot, get a gallon of paint matched to your skin colour.
Step 2 - Whenever you go out, use the paint instead of the sunscreen. You can buy paint in large quantities.
There might be some health risks associated with the above solution, but its up to you whether those health risks are worth not having to repetitively buy sunscreen bottles.

Have you looked into sun protective clothing at all? It works better than sunscreen (I still got tan marks with sunscreen) and it's cheaper in the long run. I've considered a sunproof birqua, but where would that get me?

yeah, not sure how much you want to buy in bulk as it indeed does expire. I use it by the boatload, too. I get the biggest bottles I can find and buy a new one the next year.

The most comfortable pair of pants I ever wore were sunproof. Columbia has a great line. In fact I'm more comfortable and cooler wearing full pants than I am in shorts.
In addition, if you buy the spray on sunscreen you might actually use less. I know I do, and it goes on quicker, and more evenly.

Yes to both!! I work as a mail carrier and find that wearing swim tights under my culottes (dont worry I am female) is cooler than wearing the long pants or going barelegged and wearing sunscreen. The company I buy from is Coolibar.com And yeah the spray on is good. I.ve been using Bullfrog both the spray in the plastic bottle and the aluminum container

I'm a lifeguard at an outdoor pool and we buy sunscreen in bigger containers but I'm not sure where. I'll ask tomorrow though.

The largest bottle of sunscreen I've seen was a 1L bottle, but I don't remember where. Have you tried Costco?

Hey! I just did a little search. If you go to Gemplers.com they have GALLON JUGS of what they call industrial strength sunscreen...actually I've never seen so many good sun and heat protection products on one site...

I'd be curious for sure... as counter to some of the suggestions my idea of summer is to wear shorts and a t-shirt on patio while drinking copious amounts of alcohol and not getting 3rd degree burns and blistering but its definately not about finding a cool birka/moomoo and bee keepers hat or perhaps breathable monk attire.

There is new research showing Canadians (non-white men especially) are deficient in Vitamin D (our body creates it from sunlight). In the winter, we should take Vitamin D supplements, and IIRC, not cover up so much in the summer months (within reason). This vitamin deficiency seems to have many negative health consequences.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...andHealth/home
Vitamin D insufficiency used to be thought of as a problem causing only rickets, but in recent years, researchers have found that low levels of the nutrient are linked to a disparate range of diseases and health problems, including many types of cancer, osteoporosis, mult-iple sclerosis, diabetes and susceptibility to tuberculosis and influenza.

The sun is great for you. We all need it. Sunscreen is full of nasty chemicals that are absorbed through your skin into your body.
You can reduce the dependancy on sun screen by getting a little bit of sunshine everyday. As little as 5 minutes will help your body adjust before the hot summer months.
Sun does not give you skin cancer. Getting too much sun so that you burn can lead to cancers and other problems. The sun is very good for your body in the appropriate dosage.

That's so odd to me, I wonder why the disparity based on race... if I was going to guess based on Race - I'd think it be the white guys not getting enough sun since so many of us burn so easily ... I know everyone can burn but I always figured white skin to be the most susceptible to sunshine... I assume that is correct... so why would whites have the best Vitamin D levels in a country of snow and limited summer.

I think it has to do with our skin absorbing it better... Darker skinned people are generally from areas that have A LOT of sunlight... they're dependant on it. So when they move somewhere with less sunlight, it has negative affects. White people's bodies are evolutionized to have less sunlight.
Or something like that.
