Default Help with speakers for my computer and/or TV?

So....I'm throwing my husband a surprise 40th birthday party. A party needs music, right? I'm throwing this bash at the local community center which is miles away from any kind of urban activity. So far out that a DJ wants my firstborn AND my left arm. I get the brainy idea to use my computer. It's got a million 80's hits on it. I'll have to do something about the speaker system though.

I figure that I'll kill two birds with one stone. I can buy him a new home entertainment center (speakers, reciever, etc) for his birthday present and I'll use it to do the music for his party.

I am, however, completely out of my element when it comes to this stuff. Theres a tight time frame for party setup and little room for error.

So, at the risk of sounding like.....a girl, is this as simple as I think it should be? Will speakers for the TV hook up to my computer? Will I need special cords or converters? Is there anything quirky I should know about this procedure before heading down to price out various competitors? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It all depends, it may work or may not. What kind of speaker system are you buying?

I don't know. There are three considerations:

a) Can the system do what I want?
b) Can I wire this thing myself without an excessive amount of cursing? If it makes me cry, the game is over.
c) Price. Unfortunately this falls into the "want" category, so the budget isn't huge - actually pretty small when I think of what systems can run upwards of.

Yeah. I know. I need to take someone with me when I buy or I'm in trouble, eh?

Fire me off a PM with the details. What night, where, start time, end time...

I have a fully mobile DJ rig. And give CP discounts for fun events, especially involving 80s music, as that is my forte.
