CP Pets Thread!
I've seen a lot of pictures of pets pop in various threads lately, plus we have a LOLcats thread going strong. How about a thread to post pictures of our pets or ask pet-type questions?
First three budgies that I had, now there are 6.

Nice critters all around...
Flames Gimp: Your dog looks like a sweetheart -- and "sweetheart" usually isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you think of German Shepherds.
I think in the spring I'll get me a pooch. As some of you might know, I lost my beloved Golden Retriever in September. I think I'll go with another one as I am quite fond of the breed, although I do like Springer Spaniels too and I'm tempted to get one of those.
In the meantime, back to your regularly-scheduled picture postings -- already in progress...

This is Duncan, he is 7 years old. This dog is sooooooooo eager to please and is an excellent bird dog. Here he is waiting for someone to throw something for him to retrieve. He gets so excited, he almost quivers!!!

This is Jade. She is no longer with us, we lost her a year ago to cancer. She was the dog who kept the coyotes off our yard, fearless, she got in tussles with the coyotes, you could see them rolling around and fighting and the coyote always ran off, tail between his legs. She lost 2 teeth fighting with the coyotes. The first thing she did every morning when we let her out was run to the crest of the hill in the front of our property and run back and forth, doing her coyote patrol routine. She killed a badger once too. Needless to say, stray tomcats were not a problem )) Unfortunately, she was not lucky at all with skunks, she never figured out what tactic to use with them and until she got older, she had smelley episodes with skunks 5 or 6 times a year and was then relegated to the barn for sleeping until the smell was tolerable ((

And this was our first springer, my baby, Jessie, sniff, sniff, sniff, I lost her 3 years ago. She was such a smart dog. She knew that once I planted my vegetable garden, she was not allowed in there. All I had to say was "out of the garden" once or twice in spring and she abided by that rule the rest of the summer. But she knew that once she saw me digging out the potatoes and carrots in the fall, it was ok again for her to come in the garden for a few cuddles and pets and maybe to beg for a carrot )) dogs love carrots!!! And she was such a sensitive dog. Our horses got out once and tromped through my garden leaving big holes to fix up wherever they stepped. I was not very happy about the damage they had done and was sniffling and along came Jessie to give me a hug. She knew she was not supposed to be in the garden but she also knew something was wrong too. Every time I came home from shopping, she was there to greet me. We had this routine. I would open the door of my vehicle and lean down to greet her, she would come running, I would say, "how is my pretty girl, did she miss me?" and Jessie would put her front feet in the vehicle and stretch up and give me a hug.
And if I was perhaps lying down on the couch and reading, Jessie would come along and just sit and stare at me, with her head right by my face. She was pretty hard to ignore but I pretended to anyhow. After awhile, she would put one paw up on the couch making it even more difficult to ignore her. Then she would scratch her paw a few times and of course finally I had to say, ok, come on up. And then she would go down by my feet, jump up there, and slowly snuggle herself all the way up until she was all stretched out with her head wrapped under my one arm. She was such a loving dog. But she would never go on furniture in the house unless she was asked.

Thanks for sharing, redforever. Those are handsome pooches.
Those look like the field versions of the Springer. More energetic, but also smarter than the show variety.
I like the liver-colored coated ones.

Yes, they are the field versions, they are English Springer Spaniels. They have shorter coats and less flaring on the legs etc. So then there is less hair to comb the burrs out of when you take them hunting. And yes, they are smarter than the American Springer, mainly because they have not been as inbred. Maggie has a bit of the blood line from England in her. The breeder brought a dam over from England to add to his breeding line.
Duncan has been field trialed but my husband only takes him pheasant or partridge hunting now. And when not hunting, he lives to retrieve!!!

Well, the only "hunting" I'd ask of my dog would be to find the TV remote control, but other than that it'd be ball-chasing at the park.

All of our springers sleep on their back, especially in summer when hot.

I don't have any pictures of them, because they're camera shy, but I have two piranhas that live in the bar in the basement.
