Default Stolen 1994 Mazda MPV

So, I was woken up at 4:58 AM this morning with my dad telling me our van was stolen from in front of our house overnight last night.

I will try to give every distinguishing characteristic about it that I can:

It is a 1994 Mazda MPV 2WD Minivan. It is "sand" in colour... beige cloth interior. Manual door locks, manual windows. Just ticked over 200,000 kms. It has a black rubber cargo protector mat in the back. It has a trailer hitch.

In it is my board doktor jacket which is black and maroon.

The first three letters of the license plate are CYE. I don't know the rest for sure as it is my parent's vehicle. I will update this post with the whole license plate ASAP.

If anyone sees it, can you please call 274-3331 immediately. Thank you.

This is what the van looks like (not our van, but identical in almost every way):

EDIT: It was stolen from Huntington Hills, 2 blocks east of Centre Street, less than a block from Beddington.

EDIT 2: The windshield of our van also has cracks on the driver's side, quite a few.

I feel your pain buddy. It also happened to me.

I'll keep my eyes open. Hopefully like me you'll get a call in a couple of days from the police telling you they found it in Forest Lawn.

Did you post a recap on what finally happened, Ken? I guess this means you go your car back...

(Sorry to derail - just consider this a friendly bump )

Not to try and scare Nehkara, but I haven't posted an update because I'm still fighting with the dealership about their interpretation of "re-coding the locks."

At least the insurance company started to be nice to me after the first little battle we had though.

Question.....

Does using a club in Calgary have any effect on whether they steal your vehicle or not? Or do they just use a hack saw on the steering wheel to remove a club?

I use a club on my vehicles as a visual deterent. Both have computer chips that supposedly immobilize the vehicle but that doesn't stop you from getting your window smashed out and steering column all busted up.

Sorry to hear about your van going missing. Over here in Regina, the car thefts are way down as to what they were lets say 5 years ago but we are still near the top in the country per capita!!

Joy riding probably. Some theives like to steal what ever they can, run the snot out of it, then leave it destroyed somewhere. More than likely it has allready been abandoned.

Hopefully for the owner, it is totalled. Who knows what kind of damage it could have sustained.

IIRC the MPV van is one of the top 10 stolen vehicles. Many times import cars are stolen because there is a demand for parts.

As for getting it back; I can assure you I had very mixed feelings about getting my car back.

Well, I really will miss my Board Doktor jacket if we don't get the van back. I mean, I absolutely want the van back too for my parents but personally I had that jacket for over 10 years and I loved it.

Also, my Flames MP3 player was in my jacket...

That sucks man. I learned a few years ago, to never leave anything in my vehicle over night. You never know when it is going to be stolen or broken into.

Older cars are much easier to steal. Also, there is less pressure or recognizance as they blend in easier. As easy to use as a quick car for a job, crime, dump, or re-selling or for parts.

Damn that is brutal, very sorry to hear this. I am curious, what does Alberta insurance cover under car theft? Do they repair all damages but you have to pay a deductable?

Alberta uses private insurance, so all those questions you have depend upon the coverage that was purchased.

I feel your pain. My accord was stolen in the spring of 2004 (during the SCF). It was found 31 days later, the very day I was supposed to go down and pick up my payout from the insurance company. When we got it back it just didn't feel like the same car. Sold it a few months later. It's weird, how your feelings of a car change after someone else violates it. My insurance and registration info were found in a meth lab 2 months after the car was recovered, but they never did find that Flames car flag.

Here's hoping you get the van back and that the people who stole it choke to death on their own blood.
