Ashlee Simpson on SNL
Works best to right click/save as.
btw, she blamed it on her band for playing the wrong song...

I saw that last night...that was awesome. I loved how she just walked off the stage while the band kept on "playing". Second best blooper of the weekend (after the Joffrey Reynolds one on Friday). Hilarious!
For some reason I always thought that the show was taped earlier...but this, and the fact that in Weekend Update they said Boston won the game (the game ended about 3 minutes earlier), kinda proved me wrong.

whats up with the jig? Is that how she thought she could save the performance? A tribute to Lord of the Dance?

Man I almost feel sorry for her. That was bad. The jig was a beauty though. She must have had Lucky Charms for breakfast.
Did anyone watch the show? I wonder if she showed up at the end for the big "goodbye huggy time" bit.

At the end of the show, host Jude Law said (while embracing Simpson) something like: "What can I say. It's live television." Simpson (who seemed to have been crying) then proceeded to apologize to the audience and said: "They played the wrong song."
haha, great excuse ashlee. the show screwed up because of your band, not because you dont have the talent to do it for real.

I thought she was blaming the person that pressed the play button on the CD...the band looked to be faking it too - they were innocent bystanders
edit: just saw MMF's clip. What a loser

Here is a clip with the hug at the end. She blames it on her band, what a loser.

She should have kept her yap shut. Usually that's the best bet when you've got nothing.
Anyway -- the point isn't that the band played the wrong song, it's that she lip syncs.
Anyone know how to play the drums? I think I know where there might be an opening. They'll probably all get fired so that hack can keep trading in on her good looks and wonderful voice.
Edit: btw there are like 55 pages about this on the official SNL webpage.

Lip syncing isn't uncommon though is it? I heard that most of those pop singers lip sync live performances, or at least used to before they made those microphones that correct your voice.

Probably...but the best thing to do is keep on lip synching...keep the show going. Walking off the stage made her look 'unprofessional'. 'Singing' the same song she sang before would just make her look like that's her only song...probably the lesser of 2 evils.

I was wondering what the heck was going on there when I watched it. Truly funny. If the band played the wrong song, wouldn't you just sing that song instead? It's not like she doesn't know the words.
On another note, the show was pretty funny last night. The bit with Bush and Blair was pretty good.
edit: Just watched the clip again... isn't the song played on tape the same as the band is playing? The reason she was caught is that the band didn't start playing, but the tape did.

Didn't the band start playing the same song that SNL sound crew played for the lyrics...
I know most pop artists lip sync, and i can excuse if there is some serious dancing in the song, but if you are just going to stand up there and move like me on the dance floor there is no excuse for lip syncing..
I think Elton Jon said it best about Madonna at some Music award show...

No I'm sure it's not uncommon amongst the truly lame. Britney had roughly the same thing happen to her once in concert I believe and she ran off the stage as well.
It just proves that she can't really sing, and that's the funny part.
BTW -- her sister will be pulling up the short shorts as Daisy Duke in a Dukes of Hazzard movie. Hollywood has never once churned out a bad movie based on an old tv show, so I'm sure this will be a masterpiece.

it's not uncommon to do. Award shows lip sync pretty much every act, it's to prevent error from happening during the show. Ever notice you rarely get a good look at the lips of the performer?
The thing is it's "Saturday Night LIVE" so really it shouldn't have been done in that formatt because they give the impression that it's live. Infact they say it IS live "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!"
I didn't see it, and I didn't download the clip (not yet anyway)
if she keeps her mouth shut (on this but keeps singing, in the real sense) then she should be fine.
Wonder how long SNL was doing this?

Britney did the exact same thing on SNL when she was on (obviously there was no big gaffe).
