Raps trade for T.J. Ford
Not a huge basketball fan but they traded Charlie Villanueva to the Bucks for T.J. Ford and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Any one know anything about this guy? :/

I was wondering why they drafted Dirk Jr. I don't like this move. Should have secured the position that they've never had. Keep Bosh, Charlie, and should have drafted a C.
Bah well. In Brian/Bryan we trust, right?

Yes! TJ ford is awesome...but the only question mark is his health. He had serious problems with his back that had him sit out a season.
This is the kind of pointgaurd the Raps have been lacking. Great passer, quick and young.

Well there's the pass first point-guard Toronto desperately needed. Charlie V is a high price to pay, but Ford has a load of potential also. Remember, this is the guy that Toronto thought long and hard about taking when they took Bosh in 03.
He's a great character guy and has a load of skill.... the question is if he can stay healthy.
If he can, the Raps have some solid solid building blocks in Bosh, Bargnani and Ford.
Colangelo is starting to put his mark on this team.

Interesting trade, definately addresses the PG need.
Obviously the knock on Ford has been his size, but from his first --> 2nd year (or third) in the league he made some good strides.
I think they pulled the trigger on this because it didn't look like CV was going to be able to handle SFs playing out of position (I think he had the worst opp FG %in the league too).

Nothing to disagree with from this point. I really loved Charlie V's attitude from a non-basketballer's point-of-view. His attitude was refreshing. I will definitely miss him on the Raptors. Ford's spinal problems are really a concern though (or am I thinking of somebody else). If his problems are fine now, than it's a good trade for Toronto, but if it's not 100%, why didn't Colangelo deal Chalie V., for a guy like Roy, Foye, Williams or Gay at the draft if he could have probably gotten a bit more for him rather than just cash? From the outside looking in, even though they needed a pass-first PG badly, this guys health concerns really could backfire in Colangelo's face. Just a sad night to see Charlie go .

I agree with you 100% on CV as a person, nothing but class from him.
He always had those kids sitting on the sidelines at games with the hair problems. Really classy of him to do. Met them all and everything, was really grounded and sounded like a great guy.

That's the thing. He was grounded and the perfect player for Toronto. The more I think of it, he was almost an ambassador the the club.
As a player, I don't believe a thing from people saying he's going to be a star, because plain and simple, he was good, but when it came to basketball knowledge, he totally lacked it. How many times was he caught out of position and watched everyone around him move. He's just not aware of plays going on around him or where things are headed. Solid otherwise, no doubt, but I really do hope T.J Ford is as grounded as him because as a hockey town, I think Toronto needs to see better charactered players rather than the Iverson-types who lack class.

TJ Ford is a down to earth player, he isn't that cocky. I watched some post game interviews last year, I think when he got a triple double and all the media was hyping him up and comparing him to all these veteran PG's. He just said he wants to keep working really hard and hopefully become consistent and perform to a level close to those guys.
Sounds like a standup guy, and a great PG too, the raps really didnt have much of a use of CV in the long run, especially after this draft. I still loved CV though, sad to see him go.

Yeah, I think it's a testament to Villenueva's character as to how conflicted all Toronto fans seem: clearly this is a good trade for Toronto, and yet everyone is really sad to see Charlie go. But finding a skilled young PG is in many ways much more difficult than finding a skilled young PF. Of young PGs in the league, his game is perhaps the most similar to Nash, so it really does look like Colangelo is trying to create a similar offense in Toronto. I expect Ford to have a much better grasp of the flow the game than James.

It's great that Toronto got TJ Ford. He's got that quick first step and very unselfish. All of the concerns with his back are still hanging but you have to give it to him for his dedication to come back to the game.

here is the Roster as of now...
G - Ford, Calderon, Barrett - Looks alright with Ukic waiting in the wings
SG - Mopete, James - Good 1,2 but doubt James is staying
SF - Graham,Humphries - a solid SF needs to be brought in with the loss of CV and Bonner.
PF - Bosh, Bargnani
C - Nesterovic, Sow, Whaley
The raps used to have a stock pile of forwards but are now looking a little thin. I'm guessing James is traded real soon to address that.
