New Ultra Efficient Car! (157 MPG, 1.5 L/100 KM)
German Loremo AG will introduce their ultra Efficient Car at the Motor Show 2006 in Geneva next week.
The car start-up developed a light-weight passenger car with outstanding aerodynamics. The Loremo LS is powered by a 2 cylinder Turbo Diesel engine with 20 hp and 160km/h top speed. The amazing thing is that the Loremo only needs 1.5l per 100km. This is approx. 157MPG!

Amazing!

Gonna need to test drive it first,
A good idea. I think it needs a few more features.
But this is where cars SHOULD be going.
Death to HUMMERS, death to YUPPYMOBILES with middle aged wanna bes who think they need to off road or need a big cage to be a soccer family.

I'd say that it'll have to undergo some real world testing before I come close to believing that milage claim. They're pretty vague when it comes to how exactly they achieve that - aero and weight alone won't do that.
A lot of Prius owners and other hybrid drivers have expressed dissapointment in their real world mileage vs the EPA numbers. Turns out people like things like AC, get slowed by traffic lights, it can get cold, and we like to carry a few passengers, sometimes overweight.
Sounds like they invented cold fusion to me.

It's pretty cool looking though. If it came even close to it's claims, it's still got awesome milage.
Did you know that Canadians buy mini-vans at a 2-1 ration to Americans, and they buy SUVs in the same proportion? In Canada, we generally don't have an issue with people buying SUVs for status, they do so because they need them.

For an all out economy car, why not? The Europeans figured this out long ago. If you are going to drive a completely underpowered car diesel actually makes it more fun because of the presence of some low end power.

diesel for an economy car, i absolutely agree
as for the fuel efficientcy, it is absolutely based on how you drive it, see jeremy clarkson and his 4 door diesel mpg test
just personally, being young, mid-high rpm power is what its all about

And death to people who seem to think that everyone should drive what they want them to and that they're bad if they drive an SUV... oh wait, that's you!

"One reason for the low consumption is the low weight of 450kg. The company designed the Loremo focusing on safety and efficiency and got rid of unnecessary functions."
You have to wonder what functions they deemed unnecessary in order to get the weight down that low.

Are you saying that families of 4 or more in, say, Fort St. John, BC don't need SUV's?

No, I'm not. I'm sure they do need one. I'm saying a family of one in Calgary, with partial custody of a golf bag, doesn't need one.

I'm not sure that firefly was saying they do, although it wasn't quite clear. If she was, then she needs to expand south of the border with that theory because there are plenty of cold weather families past that parallel too.

It's still a diesel - diesel turns like solid in cold temperatures. Might be useless around these parts.

Oh! Pardon me, I hadn't been back to this topic in a bit.
What I was saying is that more people in Canada need the SUVs they buy than people in the US. One look at LA would give you a great example of what I'm talking about. In LA, it's 'cool' to own a luxury SUV. In Calgary, it's more practical. Not entirely, but moreso. People in the US are more concerned with the image their vehicle gives than people in Canada. There's exceptions to every rule, that's a generality, but the figures don't really lie.

Why do all super fuel efficient vehicles have to be ugly?

I have a 4 cylinder vehicle that's decently fuel efficient that has 4 wheel drive for when the odd snow or rain hits. Not sure why anyone needs a V8 pig out there anymore, unless you need to tow something.
