Killer deal, can't believe Utah let him go. He's better than Peterka.

From the Google:
Shane Doan's career earnings, primarily from his 21-season NHL career with the Coyotes franchise, totaled over $65.5 million
His boys first contract out of entry level is $48,650,000.
Useless information is my game.

I am rooting so hard for Buffalo to make the playoffs. Those fans deserve it.

I'd prefer Peterka personally, but I don't think they are far off from each other in value.
The Doan contract has a chance to be a real bargain in those last 2 years though with Peterka at $7.7 million AAV for the next 5 years while Doan is at $6.95 million AAV for 7 years. I'd still rather have Peterka right now, but in 5 years, especially with Doan being a year younger, my opinion could change.

Peterka is so one-dimensional, and this year, he's been scoring less. He's the No. 1 reason why the Sabres are so much better than they've been in the past.

And that's with Kesselring injured most of the year - Sabres were really counting on him to stabilize the blueline, I think

With that one contract he is a few million short of passing his dad's career earnings. I feel both old and didn't see that coming when Doan was drafted, thought he was just a legacy draft pick.

Good for Buffalo, their fans deserve a win and seeing them really decisively win a deal like that trade feels good especially when a player pull an ass move and demands a trade like that especially from a team that drafted and developed him. Kesselring is a good defender when he gets back to full health (love that Oilers whiff too) and Doan is younger and harder on pucks than Peterka from what I've seen.

In what way is he scoring less? He's on pace for 27 goals, the exact amount he scored last season.

Doan is on pace for 59 points, Peterka is on pace for 54 points. Doan is on pace for 25 goals and Peterka is on pace for 27 goals (thanks to Peterka’s one extra goal). That is one trade that Kevyn Adams clearly won.

Less than Doan. Should've made it more clear but I figured it was a pretty obvious to compare between the two.

I think Peterka just has a larger body of work to judge from. He's proven to be a pretty consistent scorer for a few seasons. Doan doesn't even have a full NHL season yet. I don't think it's that risky of a contract or anything like that and the trend these days is to lock these guys in if the early returns are good (it's similar to the Coronato deal). At their ages, both players probably haven't peaked yet, so maybe one will pull away within the next couple of years.

This was a bit of a big day at work today as my business partner is close with Josh and the Doan family. As a result I've been following his career closer than I would have. He's put in the work, and is getting rewarded. Lots of development potential as well.

I like the player but it's a lot of term for a player that's just in his first full season as professional sports is very year to year. With the salary cap rising I suppose he only has to maintain 20 goal per season production.
