News Roundup

With busy start to season, Calgary Flames managing roster rotation early

'(When) a guy gets an opportunity, my hope is they’re going to grab hold of it and not let it go,' said Flames head coach Ryan Huska

FlamesNation Mailing: Collecting our thoughts after the season’s first week

The Calgary Flames have played three games thus far in the season.
They have a 1-2-0 record, but they also have 79 games to go and have played some decent hockey in their three games to date. As we prepare for another busy stretch, onto the mailbag!

Matvei Gridin’s early projections of AHL time this season may be more and more unlikely

Outside of Zayne Parekh as a close second, Matvei Gridin was the most fascinating story to come out of Calgary Flames training camp this fall. He was immediately thrown into the fire (pun not intended) and placed on the top line to show his skill and comfort level among NHLers.

Flames hope Dome can help them get over hump against Vegas

The Vegas Golden Knights have been a Boogeyman for the Calgary Flames this year.

No team has outscored the Flames by more than the Golden Knights in head-to-head matches this year. Through three games, the Golden Knights are up by a combined 11-2 scoreline. That’s a +9.

I think we are going to have a better skating game with the time off our guys finally received and earned. Starting the season with late games b2b and then a home game early in the day must be taxing to the body. I think Wolf has a good game tonight, then Cooley starting tomorrow.

At home after a few days of rest? Good!

Miromanov & Weegar? Bad!

Gameday predictions? Good!

My gameday predictions? Usually bad!

If you’re dreading watching the Weegar-Miromanov duo tonight, just imagine how Weegar feels!

Since they have struggled to start the season and I have limited expectations, they will likely win tonight. Whenever I am excited for a win, they lose. So I am just going to expect them to lose every game from now on. You are welcome in advance of our upcoming heater!!

Must win game - get that Vegas pick lower and extend their winless streak to 2!

It's still very early and probably too early to comment, but there was a lot of discussion of the log jam at forward and how it won't work rolling 4 lines.

The Flames have Huberdeau and Pospisil injured, yet Zary and Klapka are on the 4th line getting just over 12 mins a game. Gridin making the team has added to this issue. I really hope he doesn't get demoted, but it is looking like he will once Huberdeau is back.

Conny needs to make a move so some of these guys can play.

"Hey it's Miromanov, I forgot about that guy!" - Vegas fans tonight, probably.

Heading down to the Dome for my first game since they started building the new arena.

Where's the best place to park these days?

Optional skate, but any chance Huberdeau draws in already? I mean Wolf's out there for the optional and he's starting.

Could be a Win.

Could be two very important lost points at a critical time of the year that could help steer the actions of the team.

Either way, it'll be a fun night of Flames hockey!
