"Interesting to see the 2023 and both 2024 first round picks in the first game for the first time."
I mentioned this in the GT but they had all 5 first rounders from 2020-2024:
Parekh, Gridin (2024)
Honzek (2023)
Coronato (2022)
No first in 2021
Zary (2020)
Pretty good.

Finishing is definitely the issue. All goals count, but through three games Flames have scored maybe one goal that didn’t result directly or indirectly from a lucky bounce.
I suppose that explains a lot of goals in the NHL, but the lack of finish is a known thing with this team.

I saw you ask it in the GT not sure if answered- has this been done before by the Flames? I assume not- there were clusters around the early 00s- Phaneuf, Nystrom, Kobasew, Saprkyin and the mid 90s on either side of Morris/Gauthier that looked promising but always something to muck it up
likely the Atlanta Flames did it in 78-79 with a similar breakdown to the current squad
73 Lysiak- traded later that year
74- no first but their 2nd (Chouinard) 28OV did play fwiw
75-Mulhern
76- Shand, Philipoff (traded with Lysiak)
77- no first
78- Marsh
(many of their impact drafted players of that era including the 2 ROYs Plett and Vail and Kenta were drafted in later rounds)

of course I should have said- notwithstanding the pretty recent cluster that I think also did it?
that is Janko-Monahan-Bennett-Tkachuk-Valimaki
I think the group starting with Baertshi did not
either way while jury remains out on Pelletier its been a long time since a total wash first rounder (<200 GP) as opposed to pulling that feat in 5 out of 6 picks in the early- mid 00s and a similar drought mid/late 80s through early 90s
