Well now we know the theory that CP is nothing but 50+ old men can be put to bed with the Tkachuk vote!

Aside from bitterness over him being traded, why?
His stats are pretty weak, compared to some choices left (eg. Nilsson, Loob, Reinhart, Suter, Roberts, Makarov) all of whom were drafted much later. His impact as a Flame is a non-factor. His play relative to draft position is worse than all those guys above.

Going with Suter again. Tkachuk was my favourite Flames player in recent memory and Roberts was my favourite player back in the day, but both were 1st rounders and weren't as much of a homerun as Suter drafted in the 9th round.
And Suter over Loob because he had a longer tenure with the Flames.

I flup flopped and went Suter over Loob this round. After thinking about it, they number of Flames defenceman with multiple 20 goal seasons, 80 point seasons, and 6 total seasons of 62 points or more is him and MacInnis. For a guy taken as the 180th player in his draft...how do you beat that?
He should be off the board already.

Only two players in the history of the NHL have scored 50 goals in an NHL season while accumulating over 200 penalty minutes. Was just hitting his prime as a PPG player in three straight seasons when the neck injury that cost him the better part of three years. One of the toughest and meanest of players to ever put on the Flames jersey. That's where my vote is going.

GOAT!

Went with the Magic Man.
Frustrating to watch, and became a dirty Oiler… but arguably the most naturally skilled player we’ve ever drafted (Nilsson vs Johnny would be interesting though).

131 points in year one in Calgary. At age 24. Highest total in Flames history (which will probably never be matched) plus another tied for seventh and another tied for 13th. Only he and Fleury have more than one 100 point seasons. Pretty good for a 4th rounder.
Amazingly from rookie to retirement at 30, only one season non PPG (and that was 60 points in 61 games).
I never found him frustrating to watch. But he obviously wasn't a Badger Bob kind of player. Don't know if this is true, but:
”Early one morning down at the Saddledome, and Badger Bob has brought in a fitness expert to lead the Calgary Flames in stretching excercises. ”We’re going to be like the lion, the King of the Beasts,”, the Badger informs the sleepy, assembled players. ”The lions does what he wants, takes what he wants. He’s the Lord of the Jungle.” By now, Johnson is exaggerating his movements, thrusting his arms in the air, straining to make his point. ”We want to be like the lion, the King of he Beasts. And first thing in the morning, what does the King of Beasts do?” From the back of the room comes the unmistakable voice of (Kent) Nilsson: ”He licks his balls.” Source: Calgary Herald.

Loob's issue was that he left in his prime. Good on him, I guess, but it hurts his career numbers and impact as a Flame.

I just realized that I meant to pick Suter but picked Roberts. Oops.

Wish this was just Favorite all time, its honestly irrelevant if we drafted them ourselves.

But it’s not favourite all-time, it’s best drafted player… making the whole draft portion extremely relevant lol.

I see that differently.
I see it all contained in a Flames sweater with a perfect story.
Exciting prospect. Nails it. Becomes a fixture. Helps win the team's only cup. Goes home.
