too bad. Really hoped he'd end up on the Flames, or at least get away from John Hynes.

Hey Blaster, want to admit you were wrong about what I said in our little debate? I told you this was just a negotiating tactic. Give him away lol.

Big L for Rossi, imo. Caved to Minnesota. If he wasn’t that happy with them he would’ve only accepted a 1 year deal. I think he’s easily going to play better than this contract, assuming he gets the ice time.

yeah I thought he'd only go for a 1 or 2 year deal in that current situation. Third year gives him arbitration rights, I think, but that's about it. Huge W for Minnesota IMO, at the very least that contract will be decent trade bait.

Yeah, if a player gets way less than he wants in an RFA contract, he's not off the trading block by any means.

I’d think Zary comes in below this?

Consider he gets the Tkachuk treatment, he can take his qualifying offer at the end of his deal and go to UFA. So, can easily force a trade at that time.

Unless you're signing Zary for 7 or 8 years that AAV is way above his value IMO. Yes, it's a good short term value deal for the Wild, but Rossi is a back to back 20g center and just put up 60 points on a good, deep team.
I like the player's potential, but Zary has a career high of what 34points on a rebuilding club and he hasn't even found a home at C or W yet. For me ~3M AAV for Zary on a 2-3 year deal would be generous.

Big risk for the Wild though. He is primed to pull a Tkachuk. He can play out these three years and demand a trade or take the 1 year deal and walk to UFA.
Of course, that only works if he plays up to his potential. If he struggles at all he will lose his leverage.

It's fine for both the Wild and Rossi I think.
Kind of balances things out in case last season was a one off. And it gives Rossi some extra motivation to prove last season was not a one off. Of course that solely depends on how he will be deployed on a team that hasn't shown a ton of confidence in him.
But it also makes his contract a decent option for teams to take a flyer on IF things don't pan out in Minnesota.

Salary structure is 4 million year one, 5 million year two, and 6 million in year 3.
If after 3 years he's willing to take 6 million a year on a one year deal...he will have Mangiapane'd himself to to the point where he was never worth a longer deal at this dollar value. I'm sure the Wild will be happy to pay him more, if he shows he's a consistent 60-65 point guy.

The qualifying contract would need to be $7M. He can take that and walk to UFA.
That's the cost of not signing him to a long term contract. They gave in to giving him his desired 3-year contract with increasing salaries so he gets to walk himself to UFA. He will have a lot of leverage at that time.

Does the Qualifying offer automatically go up 1 million here or would it be what the final year's salary was from the last deal?
RFA Qualifying offer
On Puckpedia it says:
$1.0M or more - contract signed after July 2020
The lesser of:
a) 100% of most recent salary
b) 120% of Cap Hit
So in this case would that not be a 6 million dollar QO?
So why would it be 7 million now? Did that change in the new CBA?
I could be wrong...I often am. What did I eff up here?

One player is a .54pt/g player the other is .52pt/g player. The contracts won't be that far apart.

Yuu are correct, I am wrong. For some reason I was thinking his salary was 3-5-7, not 4-5-6.

Even if it was structured that way, the QO would be $6 million because they changed the rules after the Meier and Tkachuk contracts to make a QO the lower of the value of the final year of the contract or 120% of the cap hit.

Rossi doesn't have anywhere near the leverage that Tkachuk did. Tkachuk was living in a flat cap world. Rossi is not.
This is fair for both sides and sensible risk management by the Wild.

One is 0.73 p/g last season, one was 0.5 p/g last season.
