Good get, Macelli is so talented.
Kind of annoying that even when a small left shot winger pans out, all they can really be traded for is peanuts.

They would need him to rebound though; he was terrible this season, and was healthy scratched a bunch of times too. He's a playmaker, so the Leafs must be hoping he can replace some of what they're losing in Marner.

The issue is there are only so many spots for these types of guys. Even teams that are more open to smaller players, know you can't have a line-up full of them. So there's just less landing spots.

Really good deal for Toronto, he'll make a great Marner replacement.

I guess the consolation flip side is he was drafted as a 4th, so they got return on investment

It's honestly not that unlikely to occur, either. Prior to last season (probably derailed by injuries?) he had seasons of 57 and 49 (in 64 games) points.
51 is an odd threshold, though. Utah fans won't be pleased if Maccelli scores 50 points lol.

He had a poor season last year but is a good player to take a flyer on. His cap hit is a little high if he doesn't rebound, but he is only locked down for next season so at least there is no long term commitment.

Agreed, MM is got skill that has yet to be tapped properly.
Small left shot left wingers have to be offensively elite. Left-wing is the least valuable position on the ice. So unless they’ve established themselves, even someone as talented as Maccelli isn’t going to have a ton of value at his age.
