Default Canadians are 'leading' in LGBTQ2 support amid global declines

This is good to read.

Quote:
Support for LGBTQ2 rights and visibility remains strong among Canadians and has increased over the past year, a new poll suggests, even as global attitudes continue to decline.

Data released Friday by Ipsos in its annual Pride Report showed Canada was among the few nations where support has gone up among 26 countries surveyed, although that support is lower than levels seen in 2021.

Both of my kids are theatre kids. Tons of their friends are LGBTQ2. One of my son’s pals has parents who don’t approve. I told him last weekend if anything ever happens that he’s welcome to stay here. Breaks my heart when parents won’t accept their children for who they are.

This type of underlying spirit is why I'm proud to be Canadian and will continue to happily suffer through our long winters.

Also, this is an interesting data point on recent high levels of immigration. We've kept critical mass, and children of immigrants who grew up in less accepting cultures will no doubt be largely more accepting than their parents.

I'm sure I've asked this before but...what does the '2' stand for?

Helps when we have a PM who has a trans kid, so he is well versed in what kind of discrimination they can face.

Never understood people who get all riled up about LGBTQ rights, events, or what not. Mind your own f'ing business and the world will be a better place.

Conservatives tend to see social roles such as gender as aspirational. A lot follows from just that.

For example, those people often believe that that's how everyone thinks of gender. They don't really understand that someone would genuinely just be happy for someone else without wanting to be that someone else.

They genuinely believe that people who accept the existence of a whole spectrum of gender and sexuality are not just accepting that other people are different., but that we are in fact pushing it as an alternative aspirational vision of gender roles. They believe that the whole discussion is not about "hey you should be nice to everyone", but rather it's an attempt to redefine what the "most aspirational" gender roles are. That's why they think it's "an agenda" that's "pushed on them" that will "destroy traditional families". They do genuinely think that "someone" is trying to say "everyone should be queer now'.

That's why they believe that there's people out there who are "triggered" by someone being openly heteronormative.

Also, when they have spent their lives trying to fit some gender role, they get pissed when others go "sure whatever you do you" about it, instead of proclaiming them the winners of gender as real manly men and tradwives.

These same people are just generally always policing everyone's gender, even for straight cis people. That's why it's "gay" or "not manly" to be attracted to strong women etc. Which of course is really ironic because despite their obsession with the fantasy of gender binary, conservatives are the ones who are also obsessively talking about gender in terms of who/what is more masculine or feminine or less... or in other words, they are the ones who center their whole lives around gender roles being a spectrum and being all about the social performance (right clothes, right job, right car...) instead of a simple biological reality.

Not sure what's up with Millenials and Gen Z. It's a bit of a problem when Boomer and Gen X are more aligned with support.

Not necessarily.

Gen X and Boomers already kinda went through all of this once with gays, and many of them already know the claims about "groomers" and "predators" are BS.

That said, I think the younger generations really just don't give as much of a crap about it all, which is mostly good.

Younger men and boys are being influenced by ####heads like Andrew Tate and Jordan Peterson. The article Kel posted mentioned a gender gap that largely makes up the generational gap. That’s a troubling trend and we need to help them with their issues so they quit looking for scapegoats.

If you re-wrote this but were instead talking about having kids, it would still be spot on.
