Flames with MILD interest. Likely meaning yeah they'd trade for him but at their price. Canucks can have him really. They're a mess and adding him really probably doesn't move the needle much considering Boesers as good as gone.

He’d be a good add for the right price. Canucks will overpay though

Rossi must be asking for a lot as an RFA.

Sounds like a 7x7 which isn’t outrageous so you have to wonder why the Wild won’t pay him. Likely they know it’s difficult to win with a 5’8 C on any line in the west.

He makes more sense for the Canucks who are looking to get right back into the playoffs. In the same Lebrun article that discusses the Canucks really liking the approach Pettersson is taking this offseason and they plan to keep him. They are also desperately trying to keep Hughes so adding Rossi would give them a decent trio of the softest centers in the west when adding Chytil to the mix

There will probably be no better center on the market, especially one young and without trade protection, so might as well go for it. We're not in a position to be picky.

This team isn't tanking and going into next season with the 6th worst offense doesn't sound like fun.

I think the Flames can be picky they do not need to blow their assets and cap space on a player unless they really want him.

If the Flames were giving up the 32nd pick and Sharangovich then I would be happy to do it but not for a huge price. I think the Canucks are more desperate.

I'm sure we are in for lots of players, for the right price.

I'd wager the Flames would pursue Byram which would be within their asset budget.

Then use Anderssons return to address the center acquisition.

This is all great news for the Flames. Pettersson is a loser who will be a boat anchor contract for the Canucks for years, glad he is staying. I am also happy they think they can keep Quinn who is going to leave in 2 years to play with his brothers, hopefully they get nothing for him and he walks.

Seems like the right age range and position we’re looking for.

60 points in 82 games puts him third on the team in scoring right behind Huberdeau.

Seems like a no brainer. Here’s Andersson Minnesota.

To be fair there was no mention of of Hughes in the article that is my assumption they are trying to win immediately so he considers staying.

He made it pretty abundantly clear to the team he wants to play with his brothers. So unless the Canucks can pull off the impossible and bring the other two brothers there I don't think them being competitive is going to move the needle.

Did Hughes make it abundantly clear? How would we know?

As far as I’m aware it was Rutherford who said Quinn would like to play with his brothers. I don’t think Quinn has said anything publicly.

I believe he did say something but how it was phrased matters. We should be careful when we don’t know the context. If Hughes has basically given the Canucks an ultimatum or told them he’s got one foot out the door, they should start looking to move him now and it seems like that isn’t happening, as far as we know…..

Honestly - I really wish they'd quit talking about acquiring players... just tank already. It is abundantly clear that no amount of retooling will have this team competing with a team like Florida.

At what point do you accept they aren’t going to tank like you want and move on?
I find narrow mindedness frustrating
I believe there is rarely only one right path. There are always several and it’s about picking one and executing it well

This is what I find frustrating about the tank crew
- the constant complaining about something that is not going to change
- the stubbornness to consider alternatives

I'd go further and say you can take many paths as you don't have to make one singular decision for every single asset.

You can value one player's contribution to the room/culture more than others and not have a "every vet must go" scorched earth plan.

Andersson is great in the room, but they aren't looking to sign him by all reports.

Kadri they see differently.

Make good asset building moves.

If the value of a player acquired is greater than the assets spent and he fits you do it.

Is ‘abundantly clear’ becoming the new ‘fired immediately’?
