Flames Spirit feeling broken

Not sure if I want to watch the most unwanted sequel of all time: Florida and Edmonton Stanley cup finals (again).

It’s sickening how Edmonton is back in the cup finals despite every NHL fan hating how their organization is set up. Remember, STAN BOWMAN IS THEIR GM (reminder that he allowed sexual assault to occur during his time with the Chicago Blackhawks). So many hateable players like Evander Kane and Corey Perry. It’s just sickening that the only way to win in this league is to sell your soul to the devil (proverbially).

On the other hand, Florida’s back. As time passes, I as a Flames fan can’t stand watching Tkachuk (and Bennett) reap all the success after those trades. He strong-armed us into trading him out of Calgary. This makes me despise the Brad Treliving era of Flames GM. Not sure if even Conroy can truly fix the mess that Brad left us in. That first round pick given to us in that trade now just feels meaningless. We should’ve asked for 3 future first round picks in retrospect.

I’m trying to find optimism in the Flames future; but right now, it feels like the hockey gods handing us eternal punishment . Really at a loss of thought of where the silver lining is in all of this…

There is no silver lining. It's summer time, ignore the finals and go outside.

####ty people get rewarded with success all the time. Life isn't fair. All we can really do is hope the Flames can get better down the road

I get that it sucks to watch former players have success elsewhere, but I’m shocked how many Flames fans dislike Florida. They’re the only thing that stands in the way of something horrible happening. I’m fully on the Panthers bandwagon. Hope Chucky & Benny agitate the out of the Oilers.

There is no silver lining, the Flames and their fans are not owed anything and there is no higher power responsible for meting out justice on our behalf. Edmonton got incredibly lucky in the Connor sweepstakes and the Flames have one of the worst/greediest owners in pro sports who oversaw a series of poor management decisions that Florida is now reaping the benefits of, and that's where we're at.

Even if Edmonton wins it all, life will go on and you're free to just focus your mental energy on other things. The writing was on the wall for this organization looooong ago, and it is actually very freeing to just not care. The Flames will more likely than not continue to wade around in the mushy middle and chase wildcard spots until Edwards either dies or sells out, and the only thing you as a fan can do is choose to either accept it or walk away. That's how the organization is run and it ain't changing.

On the Flames front I wouldn’t inject the venom just yet. They took a big step this season and were 1 point out of the playoffs.

I expect they are going to take more steps in the next 2 seasons.

The Flames are ascendant! The question is not when, but how many.

This is exactly it. The only path to happiness in life is to be the one in charge of your own happiness. That means trying to avoid letting things you have no control over control your life. There are no prizes for enduring things for the sake of it.

Now, that is easily said, but not always possible. We can often find ourselves in a position where things outside our control impact us not matter what we may want. For example an LGBTQ person cannot avoid bigotry impacting them, because the bigots are actively targeting them with discrimatory laws and violence. Similarly just ignoring things like bills does not work. So there is a certain level of privilege needed.

The good news is that when it comes to entertainment like sports, it is purely up to us how it affects us, ultimately they do not matter. So they are the prefect candidate to change how we let it impact us. Double down on the parts of hockey tha brings you joy, and let go of the parts that make you feel back. If that doesn't work, there are a lot of other entertainment options than sports which may leave you feeling better.

McDavid is just really good at hockey. Much better than anyone else. Him winning a cup was always a risk.

Tkachuk is a selfish person who strongarmed himself onto a contending team. Bennett I have nothing against. To be fair, Calgary almost F-ed up his career pretty badly.

At the end of the day, this stuff doesn't really affect any of us. It's good for Alberta hockey and Canadian hockey, in general, if Edmonton wins. The only downside really is having to hear Edmonton brag about it (which they will for the next two decades)....the NHL had to change the draft rules to stop the Oilers from Oilering up the league, but they got their prized grease pig first. Is what it is.

I don't want to judge your feelings, cuz you feel the way you do, but if sports is having this much of an impact on your well-being, perhaps its best you just turn it off, take a break, and do something more enjoyable or fulfilling.

Yeah, but I don't have to live in Calgary so at least when I am crying, it's somewhere nice!

I live in North Vancouver, up in my ivory tower built on the side of a mountain, looking down upon the poors that live across our moat that we've tried to choke off with a bridge and highway with too few lanes.
