Jarome Iginla named to NHL All-Quarter Century Team
Quote:
Jarome Iginla might go down as the best player of his generation to have never won a Stanley Cup. The longtime Calgary Flame was a prolific scorer during the dead-puck era, winning the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy twice, scoring a career-high 52 goals in 2001-02.
Quote: "He's a caring, smiling, charismatic person. What we saw on the ice is that player, that force, that guy who could score goals. For me, what made Jarome a complete, complete package is what he did off the ice. What he did on the ice, we all saw it. We were all lucky enough to play with him and cherish those memories. But what he did off the ice was exceptional. Jarome had a gift of doing so with a simple autograph or shaking hands or going to a school and spending time with charities, calling someone out of the blue and making their day. That's what makes him the classiest, I think, person I've played with, on and off the ice." -- former teammateMartin Gelinas

I feel bad for young people who never saw this guy in his prime. Special, special player.
There will never be another Jarome.
Do any of his sons play his style?

I loved watching someone rile him up and then get back to their bench and a teammate would be..."are you out of your fataing mind?? Leave him alone!"
It’s unimaginable in today’s NHL to see a team’s captain fight in every round of the playoffs. While also dominating all over the ice. It’s fun to watch those old ‘04 games and hear the commentators discuss how teams just had no answer for him. If you tried to hit him he would hit harder. If you gave him space, he would rip shots right through goalies better than anyone in the world. Trying to agitate him would only make it worse.
As a flames fan, I remember worrying about the top players from other teams in each round of the ‘04 playoffs but, as the run went on, it became clear those teams needed to be afraid of Iginla. What a legend. It was in.

I salivate at the thought of Peter Forsberg and Iginla being in their primes in today’s game. Actually, if Jagr were to be in his prime today, he’d be a legitimate threat to someday break the points record.
