So is this the official start to the trade Hughes talk. He is only under contract for 2 more seasons and then a UFA. He is probably counting the days.

Hughes is a special player. It's crazy how Vancouver is pissing away his prime, but to be fair I don't think anyone predicted Demko being made of glass and Petey quitting hockey 1 year into his new deal lol.

What gets it done from New Jersey? I imagine Mercer and Nemec are a start, but maybe not even good enough to start the conversation. Hischier and Nemec?

Boeser has already said he will be moving on. He's the player up front that impressed me the most on the Canucks.

Hughes has 2 years left and I think after 1 more year they might look to move him because I think the smoke is he will sign with New Jersey in a couple years. Demko has 1 year left and had an off year after the injury. I think he can regain his form but I don't see him staying with the Canucks after they signed Lankinen long term.

Losing Miller and Boeser is a huge set back for the Canucks. They need a reset. Petersson doesn't have the attitude/motivation to be a leader.

Ya it's pretty wild in 2 years to go from 1G - 1D - 1C - 2C to 1D.

That comment of not having anything ahead to look at is kind of a strange thing to say. Canucks are kind of in shambles and I hope they sign Tocchet to a big extension so he can keep neutering thier offensive players.

Just a stunning failed re-build.
I thought they were on track with a starting netminder (Demko), strong centers (Petey, Horvat, Miller) and a blueline led by Hughes.
It's just all fallen apart.

It doesn't get talked about enough, but for me the mistakes started when they dealt Horvat and it's been compounding since.

It's probably a bit misleading and he's just talking about not being in the POs.

The No Good started when the Canucks hit the ice October 9, 1970.

I guess the thinking at the time was they already had Pettersson and Miller who both at the time were thought of as better centers. Horvat is kind of a Kadri-like center that scores goals but isn't a puck distributor. I kind of don't have an issue with letting him go. They did get Hronek in return from the Wings for the 1st in the Horvat trade which is fair. It's everything after that where things went bad. I also don't think Tocchet was the right coach for a team at that time was pretty offensively skilled as they weren't a 2-1 type of team then. They are now and it's largely why they missed the playoffs.

No. He is clearly talking about the fate of the entire organisation, and nothing anyone can say will change that narrative.

Demko is the new Gibson ... just a ton of injuries and I don't think he'll be able to overcome them.

The worst part about being a Flames fan where I am, and with the people I know, I can't even be smug with all my friends and coworkers when the Canucks fail because when they do, they all simply just stop caring.
