Icon48 Ron McLean - is it time to retire?

I used to have the utmost respect for McLean but lately he's just been getting on my nerves.

With his constant meaningless anecdotes to his undying love for the Oilers (and more specifically McDavid). His thinking that he's smarter than Bettman (I guess I like it when Bettman tunes him up).

And last but not least, his constant interruption of other analysts.

Last nights game was just the icing on my cake. I can't take him anymore and I think he need to be replaced.

The question is.....who?

He’s been past his best before date for a long time IMO.

Ron the rat should have been kicked off air a decade ago.

I don't know anyone who actually likes or respects him anymore.

When Grapes got canned he should've went right with him. Ron is a weasel who brings nothing to the table.

His love for the Leafs is also strong and gross.

They should have stuck to their guns when they demoted him like a decade ago. Even if George S didn’t work out, find someone else. But nope.

Ron likely will retire at the end of the current Rogers/NHL contract. When the new rights are signed, Rogers may not even have Saturday nights anymore. Ron is only interested in being the host for Hockey Night in Canada. Even if he still wanted to continue, he may not if he's no longer doing that night.

He seemed pretty interested in being the host for Skiing Night in Canada featuring McDavid's old linemate last night.

Checked to see if this was on old thread, but then I thought of threads and it reminded me that sather’s mother in whitecourt made Connor shirts before anyone else. It reminded me of Tavares and his pajamas episode, and when red Kelly wore a pyramid hat for the leafs coaching gig for a couple of games. Harold Ballard was the owner, and when it rained in old maple leaf gardens, it was tarps off…or tarps on. I can’t remember. By the way, did you see how Connor flashed a smile at Ross Macaulay to let him know that it was time to start calling penalties on players who leave their sticks near Connor? Lenard the dog looked great at his 1,000 game ceremony, and as I looked at the rafters in Connor’s basement, I wondered if I should have stayed on the ground as I hit my head on the rim. It reminded me of what a difficult job the officials have, especially when garland the criminal wouldn’t move his head out of the way on Connor’s right of way. Bettman should have intervened as definitely the wrong player was suspended.

Elliotte, any other news from the oilers PR team we can share?

The inferiority complex Calgary has towards everything Edmonton is hilarious to me. Yeah, Ron is corny. He still does the job well. Mcdavid gets the attention because he’s freaking amazing at what he does. It’s unfortunate that the Flames haven’t sucked to the point of drafting first overall, I get it. But stop the incessant whining.

I think we will agree to disagree here, Habby!! Ron is past his due date, as a host of HNIC!

Didn’t like Ron that much before but lost all respect for him after he rolled Cherry under the bus. The guy is a weasel who now thinks he’s some kind of Canadian folk hero and it’s seriously abrasive. Time to put him out to pasture.

Yeah, its time to put 'Dime Store Gord Downey' to bed.

This was very well done. Kudos.

1. It is a rivalry. That is how they work.
2 Inferiority complex is a couple of big words. Good job on that. I don't think it means what you think it means.
3. "Everything Edmonton?" It is a darn lovely river valley. They do have a newer sperm-shaped rink. Pissy and McCrosscheckintheFace are good hockey players (those crossovers are delightful) when they play hockey. See point #1. They very often don't play hockey, though. They are both very dirty players who get away with it for 'reasons.' See #1 again, but also, any hockey fan should be enraged that one team is favoured over others in terms of how the rules are called in the same situation.
4. I am glad we can entertain you.
5. "Freaking Amazing At What He Does" Can you not see the hyperbole here?
6. Ron is corny but does the job well. No. No, he does not. He could. Lots of talent there. He loves the smell of his own farts too much to shut up and be the master of ceremonies to let the 'experts' talk.
7. "It is unfortunate" the Flames have not had a decade of darkness to allow them to go to the front of the line to get multiple first-overall picks? How is this unfortunate? Being rewarded for being oh so bad seems like the wrong objective here. Never mind, the only thing they have accomplished with all of that 'success' is being able to watch pretty crossovers and nut spears.
8. Stop the incessant whining? First, see #1 above. Second, see 2-7 above. Third, this is a website of a provincial rival (see #1 above again) Don't come here if you don't like how it treats your very special little pets. Fourthly, Habs suck.

Good day.
