Reminds me of when Tom Wilson came into the league and was hurting a player per month it felt like.

This guys has played like 125 minutes in total in his NHL career. Saw a stat from JFresh that said Ilya Solovyov has played more NHL minutes than him in the last 2 seasons.

He’s averaging what- a suspension every six games? That’s ridiculous.

Still don’t think this was suspension worthy, penalty and or game misconduct, sure. Elbow got up entirely too high, the hit wasn’t charging and he didn’t jump into it. It was from behind but guys get pinned from behind like that every single game (aside from the elbow).

This is more about sending a message based on reputation than actually suspending him for his actions on this play. It wasn’t a good play at all by Rempe but this was way over the top. Hell Draisaitl’s regular nut shots on opponents are worse than this hit.Same with Bertuzzis slash last game.

If there are escalating punishments, surely he must have reached a lifetime ban by now.

There’s no excuse for the elbow being up as high as it was. Without that it’s not that bad a hit. He deserves the eight games.

Terrible take. The player was facing the boards the entire time and not only did he not lay up, he planted his elbow into his head at speed.

2 things here and you probably didn’t read the post lol, but I did agree with you the elbow was bad. Rempe absolutely did not accelerate into the hit, he very much could have drilled Heiskanen into the boards way harder than he did. He absolutely held back from the hit.

Here’s an example of not laying up on a hit.

Your take isn’t bad, just lacks some critical thinking and that’s ok.

Copied this from Reddit

Dudes now suspended for 26% of his NHL career

Edit: gets even worse if you factor in his past 4 game suspension. 22 games played, 12 games suspended... Suspended for 35% of his available games.

If you look at his history he has a relatively normal stat line until you get to the NHL games. Then the PIMs go off the chart.

He did not lay up on the hit. Sure, he didn't 'accelerate into it', because he was already moving at plenty of speed. The check lifted him a foot off the ice, FFS - that is not what laying up on it means.

1) player was in a vulnerable position
2) hit him in the back, straight into the boards
3) got his arm/elbow up, making the primary point of contact high
4) put Heiskanen's face into the glass

This hit could serve as the training video on what constitutes hitting from behind when a player is in a vulnerable position.

"lacks some critical thinking"... LOL, okay
