Don't the Flames have the option to sign him to an AHL contract this season?
That way they could sign him to his ELC contract next year thus extending his RFA?
It kind of sucks for the player but it seems advantageous for the Flames

Eliteprospects.com has listed him on their daily Player Transfers today, as going from a Vancouver Giant to a Calgary Wrangler, so I suspect an official announcement is imminent.

Wrangler's season opener is tomorrow night. If a centre is called up to the Flames, Lipinski would slot in with the Wranglers.

I had assumed he'd be in the AHL this season, if Morton gets called up they could certainly use a centre.

I think if they wanted him back in junior, he would have already been sent back.
Just guessing, but maybe they don't want to use contract slot for him and are offering him an AHL deal for the year. Or maybe they are offering him a 2-way AHL/ECHL deal and he is holding out for a 1-way AHL or 2-way NHL/AHL deal.
I suspect something gets signed soon though.

They have until June 2025 to sign him to an ELC. They want him to work on a few things before then, I guess.
I wonder if the Hitmen could swing a trade for him. The organization seems to like him close by where he could continue to work with trainers and coaches.

This is all very odd. If you wanted him in Vancouver, they could've just sent him there after camp. Considering he had a pretty good year this year I'm betting there's something they needed to address (fitness?)

Easily a bottom-6 C in the future who can win faceoffs, and provide toughness and physicality while chipping in some secondary scoring.
Still needs work on his boots, though.

Lipinski is going to the University of Maine next year.

Maine is a decent program. At this point, he's a long shot though.

I love college hockey, so very excited that the Flames will have at least a half dozen prospects in the NCAA next year, and likely more to come

This is perfect for Lipinski.
He isn't good enough right now for the A. This allows him to continue on his career and develop all the while getting a degree. Perfect application and this is honestly the perfect scenario for the player.
