He's probably looking for a 1 way. team wants a 2 way. I could be wrong.Or if he goes 2 way probably wants way more money AHL then they are offering.

1 way vs 2 way is potentially less of an issue - I feel like he's getting claimed if he's put on waivers.
I personally wonder if he's more worried about opportunity in the top 9.
If I had to take a guess at what our opening night roster looks like:
Huberdeau-Sharangovich-Mantha
Zary - Kadri - Kuzmenko
Coleman - Backlund - Coronato
Pelletier - Pospisil - Lomberg
or
Pospisil - Rooney - Lomberg
I wonder if Pelletier is more worried that there isn't a real offensive opportunity for him with how this lineup looks to be constructed.

Maybe not if his AHL salary is higher. Which may be their play.

So? Force the issue.
He can easily outcompete someone like Mantha for a spot. He's got a much better motor.
If there isn't a spot to start the year, make them add you later on (see: Pospisil, Zary). I still anticipate a couple of guys getting traded near the deadline, so he could easily take a spot when that happens if he's playing well.
Either way, if he can't force his way on to this sad sack Flames roster, then he's not going to be an NHLer. It's up to him.

I think he's just upset that his first name is spelled with a 'k.'

Hehe that's a lot of Huberdeau!
I'm pretty sure we'll start the season with:
Huberdeau - Zary - Sharangovich/Mantha
Kuzmenko - Kadri - Pospisil
Sharangovich/Mantha - Backlund - Coleman
Pelletier - Rooney/Schwindt - Lomberg
Coronato starts the year in the AHL until one of Kuzmenko or Mantha gets traded.
As for Pelletier"s contract I think it will be figured out rather quickly at 775-850 x 1-2 yrs.

Backlund? He is the captain.
The Flames roster is likely pretty different by the end of the year, with multiple vets gone. With the exception of a few absolutely miserable teams, there aren't many better opportunities for ice time beyond a 4th line grinding role.

Considering inevitable injuries & trade deadline departures, I sure hope he understands that he has and will continue to have more top-9 opportunity here than anywhere else in the league.

The Flames are rebuilding and are one of the weakest teams in the league. If they decide to waive Pelletier and risk him getting picked up it would be Conroy's biggest blunder. I would waive Deuhr and Rooney before Pelletier.

I very much doubt Coronato starts in the AHL this year..

Coronato is waivers exempt, so that might be the only reason he would start in the AHL.

I am going to guess that Pelletier won't be put on waivers for at least the rest of 2024 regardless his level of play, fair or not. While Valimaki isn't lighting it up, he's still a mainstay in the top 6 of most NHL teams now and would be in Calgary and I think Conroy likely has regrets around that decision.

I doubt it since Valimaki made the decision(or his injuries did) for him. There's no way to justify giving an NHL spot to a guy that was playing his way off the AHL squad. Pelletier at least has progressed very well in the AHL.

Starting to think maybe there's a RFA swap in the cards. Heavy on wingers and a dearth of center? Move Pelts for a Center??
I don't know.

That would be my hope. I've always felt that JP lacks the high-end skills and speed to make an impact at the NHL level at his size.

I want this kid to be an nhler because his personality is so good for the team.
And Huberdeau's morale.
