I went with Matvei Gridin. He's fifth on my personal list because he's a high-end offensive scorer who was able to lead the USHL in scoring. He's a dual threat shooter and passer and he has a powerful and accurate one-timer that might give the Flames a powerplay threat on the right flank. He's got really good size at 6'2" 189lbs, is a very good skater, and is noted for his hockey IQ. He can also play either wing, which is helpful.

His knock is defense and body language, but his coach says that he's an effective forechecker and penalty killer:

Quote:
Muskegon coach Parker Burgess told NHL.com in April that Gridin's actually one of their more effective penalty-killers, among other things.

"He can be F-1 on the forecheck, he gets under sticks and creates a lot of turnovers because he has such a good stick," Burgess said. "We've also given him time on the penalty kill and he's been one of our top penalty killers since we've done it because he's got a good reach ... his stick detail is through the roof."
I'm pretty excited for this player and anticipate that he'll be putting up monster numbers in the CHL this year. Between him, Suniev, and Coronato, I'm hopeful that the Flames are going to have a reliable 25-35 goal scorer coming through the system in the next few years.

Just because Joni Jurmo was a trade vs a draft pick and Crazy Bacon Legs never got a chance to give a report on him, i'm starting to think Jurmo should be showing up on this list soon. Watch video of him from 2022 world juniors.

Why did Vancouver throw him in that trade? Late riser at the draft and was getting some 1st round consideration apparently? BIG. FAST. SMART.

Voting by upside so Griden is the pick here. I think we all might be sleeping on Misa here though, he will never be a two way guy but his skill set is pretty high end.

Are we voting for players who have a very good chance to make it to the NHL soon (but only be a journeyman) or someone who may become a superstar in the future (but takes longer to develop)?

Voted for Pelletier again. I think he might be the last "older" prospect from my list that I'll try to vote in amongst the remaining options since to me, he's the last one amongst the older draftee classes who could find a spot in the top 6/top 4.

Yes.

Choose whatever criteria you deem appropriate.

Choose whichever makes most sense to you.

But by God don’t tell anyone what your criteria are. That’s how this thread gets derailed, historically.

I'm currently voting by how many "e"s are in the player's first name.

Currently, Etienne (Morin).

Next up, Jeremie (Poirier).

I mean, at the risk of derailing the thread, you’re obviously wrong.

R is the letter you’re looking for.

You're going to be voting for Koumontzis for a long time after those two are off the board.

I believe the prevailing opinion of him is great tools but a possible lack of a toolbox.

It'll be really interesting to follow him with Wranglers this year.
