Looking for "a guy to do xyz"
First... Get yer mind outa the gutter.
Intended to be an unofficial place to maybe recommend "a guy" for some trades work, or to ask if anyone knows "a guy" to do something. Often something maybe not huge, perhaps something that'll only take an hour or two... and you don't want to call on one of the bigger contractor services type companies.
Just for clarity, please don't ask about if they take "money under the table", just to keep things clean and clear. That's up to the contractor and the person who needs the work...
Replies either within the forum or by PM, but not intended to be an ongoing lengthy back-and-forth discussion.
Thx.
RR

OK... I need a bit of wooden-fence work done on the back yard so looking for "a guy" who can come out. Likely a single, maybe 1.5 day job.
Already had 1 guy bail, had another guy turn on "ghost mode", then had a contractor tell me my job is too small for his small company. sigh...
Looking to fix a few panels, some top caps, and replace a few support posts (and concrete base). All pressure treated. Don't need a whole replacement job.
Far NW Calgary.

OK... looking for basic faucet/plumbing type work. Plumber probably has the tools that I don't and knows how to get stuff un-seized - am talking about the cartridge inside the faucet body. Cartridges are leaking, and I have the replacement cartridges, but can't extract the cartridges. Probably 2-3 hours of work in total.
Nope, warranty replacement is not an option.
Far NW Calgary.

Isn't "The CP Power Ring" subforum the place for this kind of stuff?

I'm looking for a guy with a very particular set of skills, skills they have acquired over a very long career.

I know lots of people who do lots of different things.
As far as the OP I think I know the perfect guy. Unfortunately, he is French.

One could go with the universal "Looking for a homo sapiens to build a fence."

I endorse the 'Power Ring' to bring up business for CPers, but if you're looking for certain people I have a fairly wide network.

However, if someone has recommendations for chimpanzees that can do it, that would obviously be preferred.

I hired one once, but that guy took way too many smoke breaks.

Just a FYI, this may sound stupid or may be a "doh" moment. I was having a hell of a time removing the old cartridge on my tub faucet, didn't want to twist too hard and force it. Then I tried opening up the faucet the whole way first and the cartridge unscrewed super easy. If that works you can send me 1/2 of what you were going to pay the plumber

Wow. Definitely did not go the way I figured.
I knew some Dorkus Maximus would jump on the “guy” thing, but these days I suppose I shoulda said “bruh” to be inclusive.
I had no idea about the “power ring” thing. For all I know that’ll send me down some rabbit hole to Chicken place in Kensington.
… and yeah… I was actually serious about finding “a person” with skillz to help with what I posted. Nothing else implied.
That said… tres amusing responses.

I asked the leads who are part of the same group as I am at work what their views are when someone refers to a group as "guys" when there are women included as part of the group and I was surprised to hear that all the women were fine with it (many use "guys" themselves to refer to a group with both sexes), while some of the men in the group (myself included, but a minority of them) tended to use other terms like, "folks", "all" or "team". I'd wager though that we don't however have any leads in this same group who are under 30, and I'm wondering if maybe the results would be different if we did?
