He was with the Jackets from 14/15 until he got canned after 22/23 and his PP rank during that time was 26 assistant and HC combined.

Hopefully the high bar set by Marc Savard isn't too high of a hurdle for him.

I doubt it, why leave the Red Wings unless it's a promotion

Has "Interim Head Coach" written all over it.... for when Huska inevitably gets canned.

There are 32 teams and it was combined head and assistant coaches, so it would have been 26 out of 40ish?

Good hire IMO.

I recall sitting low in the Dome at the Jackets in 2017-18 year (Jagr was a Flame) behind the benches, and he was doing all the coaching for CLB and guys were talking it up with him, and Torts was just sitting back and interjecting breifly. It was actually quite the sight to see how that dynamic worked and how much Larsen was doing...alot more the GG or Gerard and the other Flames assistants were doing on our bench.

Maybe not cut out to be the different beast that is required to be head coach material when they finally gave him the keys in CLB to replace Torts, but certainly seemed like an active, players style, coach.

Darryl was like that as well. The assistants did a lot of talking on the bench. It’s the room and rest where Sutter made his mark.

I think a lot of coaches, more old school ones tend to do that.

He's under an air tight contract in Detroit.

Is he a powerplay coach? I am just wondering if he is a direct replacement for Savard, or if they are going to be shuffling roles around.

Give the PP role to Kuzmenko!
