Honestly, I think the Flames should claim him.
Hope that Kuznetsov has some chemistry with Huberdeau and/or Kuzmenko. Then, trade Kuzmenko and Kuznetsov at the deadline next season.
Won't the Flames have like 20+ MM in cap space next season.

^ It would be interesting, maybe even worth a try... but definitely not a move the Flames would make imo. I can't see that happening.

No way should the Flames claim him. Another year left at almost $8 million. To take on that cap hit, it's worth at least a 1st round pick + a 2nd.
He is absolutely terrible
Weaponize that cap space in another way

no way. save cap space to acquire someone else's Monahan plus a pick. Maybe even Kuznetsov if the Caps add a sweetener. Don't take someone's garbage for free

Probably a low chance Kuznetsov ever gets back to his old self, sadly.

Only an insane GM would claim him.
Simply because it needs to cost Washington lots to dump him.

No one will pick him up because they'll want compensation from WSH - he clears, then they will have to give up X to move him. Why take him for free when you can get a pick for doing it?

This has the potential to turn into a Lindy style deal, don’t claim him and if he goes unclaimed start discussions. Flames would be doing the Capitals a favour taking that contract on, even more so in exchange for Hanifin with the way he’s playing, even more so still if Hanifin was willing to extend.

He’s owed $8m next season.
Why claim him when you know it will cost Washington draft picks to move him?
It’s wasting $8M of cap space. It’s a huge risk.

On waivers or on waivers for the purpose of contract termination? Usually, the latter is communicated at the time of waivers, right? Is he wanting a chance at a fresh start with another team? It's interesting since there is no knowledge of why he was in the program - a policy I agree with, BTW.

On another note...who has an $8M contract without movement protection? That seems odd to me. Or did he waive it?

How many teams have the room to take the gamble?
CHI
ARI
SJS
ANA
NSH
CGY
Maybe CHI has interest, but other than that, I don't see anyone else being interested. If we could get a 1st for him I'd do it, but anything less than that, no way.
