At first I was thinking "but we got Conroy from the Blues for Stillman?" Then they started the text messaging sequence and I remembered "oh, yeah, we traded Lundmark, Wahl and a 2nd to reacquire him." At the time it was probably an overpayment as Conroy was having a rough year, but he finished that season strong.

Conroy left for the Kings because his contract demands were too high for the Flames and then he goes on to post a 66 point season. Then the Flames jus reacquire him anyway the next year after falling off a cliff production wise. Weird time. Conroy's departure opened the door for Langkow.

Couldn't they just give him a ride to Calgary?

That’s an awesome story. Pretty funny. Kind of ruthless the way they treat the athletes sometimes haha. Like don’t even let the guy say bye to his teammates.

The Kings couldn't wait to get the hell out of Red Deer.

How can you not like the guy? Such a classy person and quite the story as well. Really hope his tenure as GM is successful as you can tell he loves the city and organization.

It's nice to sort of see his two return goals to Calgary. It was on youtube for like 6 years after that night and then it was gone and that was that. Such a special night just gone from media history.

Except for a 2 year vacation to angeltown Conroy has been in Calgary for 23 years, I hope he bucks the trend and lasts another 23 years as GM.

Between him, Iggy and Gelinas we have 3 of the most humble, nicest former pros ever collected on one team.

It would just be so nice, if the Flames found success with Conroy, Iginla and Gelinas in management.

Simply quality individuals. Would love to have all three connected to the Flames’ next cup.

I remember being at that game. Fans had been clamouring to get him back and when the trade went thru, no one could believe it happened.

Then to come out and score 2 goals, the dome was rocking. They tried so, so hard to get him the hatty but came up short. Would have blown the roof off.

My sister was a huge Conroy fan and was bummed when he went to LA. She had the tickets for that game he returned.

I delighted in telling her that she wasn’t going to see Conroy play for LA that night, deliberately omitting the traded to Calgary part…

That was definitely one of those 'Fairy Tale' sports stories that you never expect to really happen.

Why are you still here? Did they leave you?

Even the people of Red Deer understand you don't just stay behind in Red Deer.

There are many places of such ilk...

I only got to tune into that game on 960 and I still remember the roar of the crowd when Beesley announced them, what a legendary night

I am excited that the new hires will mean an inevitable appearance of GM Craig Conroy on HNIC After Hours, which will be extremely entertaining. Maybe there will even be an Iginla episode!
