Who do you want to see as next Flames head coach?
Mods could add a poll with all the speculated suspects. I like Mitch Love and I think he has a bright future but I think the natural process is to bring him up as an assistant coach first. I think you need a guy with at least some NHL level experience at coaching for this group. I think you need a players coach that communicates well. I think you need someone who preaches a more offensive skilled system because that is what this roster is constructed of. I think that guy is Andrew Brunette. Like it or not, Huberdeau is the new face of this franchise and this guy unlocked his top potential. He also got great production from Weegar. Players listen to him and love playing for him, I don't think it is any coincidence that the Devils turned the page once he arrived there. So who is your choice?

Boudreau is such a perfect choice that I'm sure the Flames will never consider him.
He's a players coach, wonderful guy, and a great hockey mind. He'd be a great stopgap to have, and Love can be an assistant if the Flames believe he's the coach of the future.

Love has more head coaching experience than Brunette who was an assistant his entire career save for his short Panthers stint as head coach. From my point of view he just continued with the system Quenneville was running. Personally I wasn't a fan of the style the Panthers played at that time as it was pretty loose and it wasn't really surprising when they got swept in the playoffs where he was totally out coached by Cooper. I would much rather go with Love who the Flames know well than the inexperienced Brunette.
Boudreau's age doesn't fit the vision of Maloney so he's probably a non-starter.

Honestly to me based on the comments it really seems that it's a Conroy/Pascal with Love tandem at the end of all of this. Unless someone else absolutely knocks their socks off in a GM interview.

Mitch Love. Uses his players very well and they go through the wall for him. My only concern is will his style translate to the big stage?

I don't know really.
I wonder if Mark Recchi would get a look though. He has been an assistant in Pittsburgh and New Jersey. Was a great leader on the ice and has been in organizations that seemed be winners and have good cultures. I think he is someone the players would respect, but like also not a pushover.

My untested assumption is that the Flames in the face of other openings will never get the best guy available.
So their best chance at the next Bob Johnson is to give them their first shot and hope it turns out more Al Arbour than Glen Gulutzan.
Mitch Love is certainly that candidate this time around. Concerns over having the AHL's best goaltender of all time pulling the team along I guess, but he's getting it done, and seems to be a guy that relates well to players; which is necessary after the Sutter fall out.

I don't see this as a problem seeing Wolf would soon be following him to the Flames. I don't expect Wolf to be the best NHL goaltender of all time but I have a feeling he's going to be better than what the Flames received last season from either goaltender.

Why? I took it as a comment on how much the fanbase loves Chris Sutter. I dont think it was meant any deeper than that

Love feels like the obvious choice.
Brunette has my interest but only because he has experience with two players on this team. One of which performed exceptionally well for him.
Love has experience with others and as previously noted would likely have several members of the Wranglers joining him up here soon enough.

Brunette (has proven results with Huberdeau) as HC, Love as an assistant. Then we can Brunny boy in 1-2 years when Love has feasted on his brain juice and extracted the value from it, and Love then becomes head coach and punishingly rules this franchise with an iron fist for the next decade.

I just want a coach who knows how to be adaptable, follows modern analytics, forms good relationships with players, hold them accountable in a good way and doesn’t play mind games

Don't get the love for Bruce. Sure he's a players coach but he was awful in Vancouver. They really turned things around after he left. I find him entertaining but in my opinion there are much better candidates out there.

I would vote Huska. A longer resume than Love. The antithesis of Sutter on the communication front. A Blackhawks writer pinged him as someone the Hawks should look at last year - https://thehockeywriters.com/blackha...ead-coach-job/
Pike mentioned he was interviewed for the Detroit job - https://flamesnation.ca/news/friedma...d-coaching-gig
Point being, he's garnered attention for head coaching jobs.
And, I really like listening to him talk hockey.
