After the "inevitable" missed playoffs 2023
Here's my wishlist for what i want after the Flames "most likely" miss the 2023 playoffs:
1) Brad Treliving does not get extended and steps down from GM. This season is a microcosm of Tre's time as GM: lack of a long term vision/plan to build a proper team and knee-jerk moves that hold the team back (ex: not building a proper team around Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk and Bennett, letting them go for basically nothing minus the Tkachuk trade, then replacing them with dollar store versions of them in Kadri, Huberdeau, Weegar now on bad contracts). I just hope the new GM has an "actual long term plan" for this team and that every trade, draft or signing is done with care (unless if the new GM turns out to be Jim Benning, Peter Chiarelli, or any other GM as bad as Tre).
2) Darryl Sutter is fired and does not get to coach for the rest of his extended contract. I want preface by saying i respect Sutter for all he has done as a coach from 2 cups with LA and 2004. However, coach's only exist to be fired if nothing goes right. The look on the faces of Flames players after the 3-0 loss to Minnesota tells the whole story. No amount of motivation from Sutter is going to bring this team out of the blue. I just get this feeling that Sutter (and the players) are so done with each other. It may be in everyone's best interest for Sutter to stop coaching, scrap the entire coaching staff, and replace them with people who can bring more positive energy/motivation to a team stuck in misery.
3) Murray Edwards (ie. Flames ownership) stops meddling, sells the team, or spontaneously passes away like Eugene Melnyck. This one may be unrealistic, morbid, or a bit hateful in tone. However, i sense that Edwards is pulling the strings on the Flames organization. The Sutter hiring may be more Edward's idea more so than Treliving's idea, and i have a bad feeling Murray is going to let Darryl coach the rest of his contract, despite collective anguish and disdain from the majority (or loud minority) of the Flame's fan base and [maybe] players. It may be hard for the Flames to get out of their boy's club traditions and become a forward-thinking organization if ownership stays the same (kind of like Aquilini with the Canucks. This is not including the drama surrounding the new arena...
I'm pretty sure these 3 things may be impossible to accomplish all at once, but not seeing Brad Treliving anymore is a start. 2023 may be a nightmare, but it's no use being more negative than we already are...

Do we actually even know for a fact that the owners, and Murrays in particular, meddles to the extent fans say? It seems like it is something Treliving apologists like to say to get him of the hook for decisions he has made.

Treliving didn’t have a long term plan? What? He took over in 2014 and built a team that had an excellent core in their mid-20’s that put up multiple 50 win seasons. It’s not his fault the two guys that chose to leave were the two most important pieces. His Huberdeau trade, in hindsight, didn’t work but virtually everyone here and in the media praised him for extending the Flames window to compete. I don’t agree with that assessment even a little bit.
And yeah, wishing someone would just die is morbid. Brutal post.

Also: It's not a "CP Story."
Don't drag D'Arcy into this.

I saw the title say story and thought it was a article originally something instead we get this garbage hoping someone dies.
It's a game it's not that serious if it is maybe step away from it.

Rob Kerr seems to think so
https://forum.calgarypuck.com/showpo...ostcount=11081
Quote:
Unfortunately after listening to Rob Kerr last night I think any idea/hope of a re-build is toast (much like most have already said) He basically said that ownership only cares about the playoff revenue, not the product on the ice sadly. So getting into the playoffs is "the only option" they dont have plan B. Even with the terrible play all year and awful goaltending, they've spent to the cap and want to recoup as much of their money as they can, and that requires playoff revenue. Sadly as much as we want to see this team commit to a proper rebuild and sell off some of our assets at the deadline its just not going to happen.

This is going to be one of those days, isnt it.
I do often find the concept of 'changing ownership' to be an interesting perspective as a fan.
Frankly...careful what you wish for.
I'm not going to get into 'hoping someone dies' because it goes without saying that this is just awful and senseless.
But a fan's mindset that 'new ownership' will be some sort of nadir to turn around the fortunes of the team.
It might. Fresh ideas, etc. But it could also be a complete disaster.
Realistically, ownership should do 3 things.
1. Provide funds/Framework/Overall vision
2. Install management to execute plans to operate that framework
3. Not meddle
Thats it.

A hockey team isn't playing very well, so someone spontaneously dying is on your wish list? Wow.

After the inevitable bad take post following a disappointing year, anyone that posts they want the Flames management or ownership to die should be banned.

Ownership generously allows Treliving to spend the max every year
It’s not perfect but that’s pretty good
It’s a game, complain all you want but don’t take it too personal
