Columbus Blue Jackets’ Johnny Gaudreau gets ready to face former Calgary Flames team Friday

“I know a lot of people thought I was just stringing Calgary along, but no. It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” said Gaudreau. “I was sitting there, it was, like, 8 o’clock on the night before free agency, and I was still thinking about re-signing in Calgary. So yeah, it was super close. I know that a lot of people won’t believe me, but I remember sitting there with my mom and (my wife) Meredith, and it was just really, really hard. I didn’t have an answer. I didn’t know what to do.” Gaudreau was also asked if choosing Columbus over Calgary was the right decision.

Calgary visits Columbus after Toffoli’s 2-goal game

TOP PERFORMERS: Johnny Gaudreau has nine goals and 19 assists for the Blue Jackets. Gustav Nyquist has scored four goals and added three assists over the past 10 games. Toffoli has eight goals and 10 assists for the Flames. Adam Ruzicka has four goals and six assists over the last 10 games.

Johnny's probably going to score but outside of that this is a game the Flames absolutely have to win given the Toronto game is going to be extremely difficult.

I'm going to be at this game.
If you hear overwhelming boos for Gaudreau, that'll be why.

I hope Phillips tries to drop the gloves with Johnny. Let’s get a 5’7 fight going

While I don't expect the Flames to put a beating on the Jackets like Buffalo did, I'd be pretty disappointed if they don't get a win. I mean, how do you not? That team has all but given up. Put forth an honest effort, collect your points and move on.

Also seems like the perfect spot to give Markstrom a go and get that confidence up.

Is Johnny going to step up his game to stick it to his old teammates? Or will he be barely noticeable? Excited to see what happens here though I won't be able to watch the game.

I have never liked playing a team that just got their ass handed to them. Professional teams have pride. This could be a bit of a trap game, the Flames need to come out flying.

Having said that, Columbus has been really bad lately.

I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t the bday win I’ve wanted most! Come on Calgary!! Can’t believe the first game against Johnny falls on my bday it’s pretty neat, the fact that Phillips is called up is even better!!!!! And a Cheese GDT to boot? Down right spoiled over here; my age says it’ll be a 4-3 win but I feel like 9-3 is so much more fun!

Cheese's projected lineup forgot to insert Phillips on the top line.

Great write-up, but, Toffoli stats are missing his last game.

Wow, that group of defensemen in Columbus isn't even AHL worthy.

If Gudbranson is on your top pair, you're gonna have a bad time.

Hope we score 13 in honour of Johnny.

I'm not sure how much extra motivation Johnny will have -- he was the one who decided to leave -- but I'm pretty sure there's 20 guys in our locker room that will have no problem running up the score if they can.
