Default Blackhawks and Kyle Beach agree on settlement in negligence lawsuit

Just announced on Thats Hockey on TSN.

Now they are going to meet with John Doe #2 and attempt to do the same thing.

Not the way you’d have hoped it would have gone and I’m happy Beach and now hopefully John Doe 2 are able to get closure and a settlement but man this is such a sad story through and through no matter the outcome. Here’s to continued healing for Kyle and JD2.

I am sure Beach is just glad to be one step further in the healing process. I imagine the settlement process was extremely stressful.

Hope he got a dump truck full of money. It's the least he deserves.

Hopefully, coming forward with this has brought Kyle closure (and millions of dollars) and will prevent at least one kid from going through the same thing in the future.

I really wish the Hawks weren't able to just sweep this under the rug.

They fired most of their senior management and had to endure a media ####storm that lasted for weeks, which may have permanently damaged their image. And they have paid what is presumably a life-changing sum of money in compensation.

By your standards, what would not constitute ‘sweeping this under the rug’? Public hangings?

Just a crappy situation all around that impacted a lot of people negatively because of one guy

Money can’t change the past but hopefully beach and jd2 don’t have to worry about it anymore.

How about not paying off the victim in exchange for his silence? How about allowing the public to find out what they knew, who knew it, when they knew it, and what steps the organization took to discredit the victim and try to stop various figures in the media from reporting on it?

In other words, you want Beach to refuse the settlement and go to court where he might get less, because you are nosy and want to know all the dirt about something that does not concern you.

I understand this and would love NDA's related to sexual assault to be illegal. But in this case I think we know for the most part what went on (they released a detailed report) and who knew what and when.

For people like myself who care about these things, the Blackhawks will never recover. Screw them.

If Kyle is happy with the compensation that's good enough for me.

He was suing them.....for money.

They just did what he asked them to do.

That's a problem for you?

I would guess quite a bit less. He would have had trouble proving reasonable damages of that much I would imagine. Maybe $15-20M.

But we are just guessing. It’s clear the Hawks were very motivated to get this done. So you could be correct. This is one case where the plaintiff could sit back and be as unreasonable as he wanted to be and make the Hawks pay through the nose.

The only part of it is the NDA for me. Should be public knowledge. If the kind of #### in that report was allowed to be public, then this settlement shouldn’t be behind closed doors. That’s all. Hawks should come out with a joint statement of facts with an admission of guilt and what they are doing going forwards along with the details of their settlement. Anyway. I have no doubt this will be forgotten over the next few years.

I truly do wish Kyle and Jon Doe 2 the best. Some people never fully recover from their trauma but I do pray that they can get to a better place mentally in their lives. Money doesn’t fix the damage done but it will definitely help Kyle be able to get some form of closure

I dunno. He was a top draft pick who was assaulted before he was able to develop as a player at all. Argument could be made he could have had a $50+million dollar career if not for this incident.

Maybe Beach is happy with the NDA. Maybe he feels he's done his part and he no longer wants this painful part of his life being paraded all over the internet and airwaves, and wants to move onto the next chapter in his life.

Public doesn't deserve to know everything.

Well it’s an agreement, so of course he’s happy with it.
