The 2021 NHL Draft Lottery (5 PM on Sportsnet)
Here we go.
Will the Flames finally win their first top-3 pick since relocating to Calgary? They're one of just three active NHL teams (the others being Vegas and Seattle) to have never picked that high.
http://www.tankathon.com/nhl
Here are the #1 pick odds:
1. BUFFALO (16.6%)
2. ANAHEIM (12.1%)
3. SEATTLE (10.3%)
4. NEW JERSEY (10.3%)
5. COLUMBUS (8.5%)
6. DETROIT (7.6%)
7. SAN JOSE (6.7%)
8. LOS ANGELES (5.8%)
9. VANCOUVER (5.4%)
10. OTTAWA (4.5%)
11. ARIZONA* (3.1%)
12. CHICAGO (2.7%)
13. CALGARY (2.2%)
14. PHILADELPHIA (1.8%)
15. DALLAS (1.4%)
16. NY RANGERS (1.0%)
The first and second picks will be determined in the lottery. Any of these 16 teams, with the exception of Arizona, can move up to either of the top two slots. Arizona forfeited its first-round pick as a result of the illegal fitness testing sanctions levied against it by the NHL; if the Coyotes are drawn, the lottery will be done over.

No expectations of the flames winning but oilers not being involved means I can watch and enjoy. Also, this is the year we finally find out... do you need to have Taylor Hall on your team for a full year to win the lottery or will a partial season suffice.

This is the one lottery I don't want the Flames to win. If they decide to rebuild after this year then I want the option for our 2 lottery wins in 5 years to be the two years after this one for Wright and Bedard. This draft doesn't have that franchise altering prospect at the top so I'd rather gamble at our current spot than "waste" a draft win tonight.

This year doesn't count for that win limit. It only comes into place next year.

I'll take a lottery this year easily. This team won't rebuild. Sutter has the group starting their summer training early, they will try and improve their depth/scoring via trade and free agency, and most likely be in a playoff spot with the division format back to normal.
Owen Powers, Eklund, Beniers would be unreal for this team. Powers being a perfect Giordano replacement we need.

Though not possible I still expect the Oilers to win the #1 pick.

I don't expect this to happen, but what I am certain of is that they will somehow complain about how this lottery is unfair, and will continue to whine about being the most hard-done-by fanbase in the NHL.

As good of a chance as the Flames making the playoffs before Montreal snatched it away.

Montreal didn’t snatch anything, we shot ourselves in the foot. So many times that we started to shoot the other. We’re not in the playoffs because of our own doing.

It really seems like there’s not a lot separating the top 3 or 4 players this year, so as a Sabres fan I’m not too stressed about where we end up.

On one hand it makes it easier to pick someone on your list since there isn’t a consensus #1. However, we’ve seen this in 2014. We were more than happy to take the 4th guy in the consensus top 4, but Bennett has a ways to go to catch up to Ekblad/Reinhart/Draisaitl.

I'm assuming you mean "waste" our luck to draft first overall, since each lottery is independent of results of one another (the new rule of not winning more than 2 consecutive doesn't start till next year).
If that's what you mean, then I'm the opposite. As a Flames fan, I take any luck we can get. Because you know if we don't win this one, we aren't winning the one next year or the year after that either. Flames are fated to never win a draft lottery until proven otherwise. Maybe winning this year kicks of a string of good luck for the next few years.
