Default Concrete Driveway Recommendations?

Did a search, and even going back 5+ years there didn't seem to be a consensus.

Looking to replace our old and failing concrete driveway with a new one. Any recommendations for a good company appreciated!

Not what you're asking but those rubber driveways look good and I've seen several that are over 10 years old and still look new. It goes right over existing concrete.

But if you plan on playing street hockey on the driveway with the kids that material slows the balls down and creates friction with your stick.

My driveway is pretty steep, which I think is probably why the concrete is failing. (That and being south facing). So ball hockey isn't a big consideration.

We did get a high level estimate from a rubber driveway company of $11/sq foot. They didn't come out or anything, and I'm a bit concerned about how it would adhere to the current concrete, which is pretty poor quality at this point. I think I'm past having it repaired at this point.

The problem is all the best concrete companies are slammed right now. Your window was early spring or late fall. As long s you don't buy #### concrete from Rolling Mix you should be able to get good concrete from Inland, Burnco or Lafarge (supplier) but good luck getting a decent finishing crew at this time of year.

If you buy based on price alone you will get ######ed.

A Buddy of mine runs this company https://www.trubuilt.ca/ and a friend got some work done and was extremely happy with the results.

He does some amazing work.

I just need to fix some crumbling and slight failure around a few of the lines (expansion lines?) on the driveway. Any advice for that? looking for a DIY solution.

Are rubber driveways easy to shovel?

Legit never heard of a rubber driveway before, nor seen one...

I don't know anything about this stuff so I got curious. I'm also assuming it's not totally the same stuff that is on certain playgrounds in the city.

I looked at a website that suggests using a plastic shovel vs a metal one on a rubber paved surface. The rubber paving are also being stated to be slip resistant.

The quick search I did on rubber paving seems to be on two extremes. A handful of those who have completely no issues, many others who have a ton of issues they have difficulty getting addressed. It weirdly seems like a dice roll.

Another thing that bugs me about the rubber paving is that there are tons of examples where people don't bother matching the colors correctly. Why the default isn't light grey (ie: concrete color) and instead dark grey/black like asphalt is beyond me. Even worse, there are many examples of brick colored red. It literally creates a contrasting color around someone's home that seems jarring and unsightly.

I was intrigued at first, but I don't think I would ever consider the rubber paving on anything more than a small walkway or private pad where my concerns on aesthetics are relatively miniscule. I'd lean towards redoing with concrete for sure. I wouldn't want to take the risk of the product failing and/or looking unsightly.

This website even suggested avoiding rubber paving altogether and going with resin bond. I haven't bothered reading into that, but I think based on casual glance, I'd consider this option for resurfacing over rubber paving.

Interesting. House is coming up on 40 years old, and it seems like neighbours are starting to do theirs. Although our steep driveway is much worse than most of the flat ones in the same area (which were presumably done at the same time).

I suppose the reason it is failing isn't that important, as it definitely needs to be done. Except if I can prevent it from happening again, as I wouldn't be surprised if we kept this house close to another 40 years, so I'd like this to last.
