Sadly I can't do a poll. But I was deeply saddened by the death of Eddie Van Halen. Growing up I would have to rank them as my favorite band. I learned to play Jump (poorly) on my guitar in my buddies garage band playing to a sold out audience of two cats and a dog and two really dis interested girl. I later learned to play Running with the Devil on the bass.
Whenever I go for a long drive, I still listen to Van Halen. whether its tape, or cd or spotify as a band it holds a cherished spot.
So the one question I wanted to ask the CP world. Which Van Halen is your Ban Halen?
Is it the David Lee Roth Van Halen. The hard guitar hard party sound band with amazing hits like Dance the Night Away and Running with the Devil, and the whole awesome 1984 Album. The band with the serious guitar intros, and the even better guitar solos?
Is it Van Hagar. For some reason just way better musically to me, Hagar's vocals worked. It went heavier with the synth work but was still an amazing crank up the volume party band.
Was it maybe the Gary Cherone Van Halen, cause that would be weird since no one remembers it.
What are you're top 10 Van Halen songs of all time, the must listen vibe for any mood?

I was never a huge fan a Hagar, but his album Marching to Mars is a departure, and really good. Kind of made me step back and reassess him as an artist.
David Lee Roth... if he had only had someone in his corner to advise him on the desperately needed makeover he needed. An image change around the time of 'Me Wise Magic' would have altered the feel of Van Halen in a very positive way. If he walked out on stage during the big MTV Awards reveal (right before Twister came out), and was wearing a suit and a gangster ass beard or something, the reception would have been nuts.

Hot For Teacher
Eruption
Panama
Running With The Devil
Poundcake
Right Now
Ain't Talking Bout Love
Jamie's Crying
Jump
Why Can't This Be Love
Intruder/Pretty Woman
Tough for me as the original lineup probably features Eddie's best work. If I could only have one probably Van Hagar as 5150 is probably my favorite Van Halen album from front to back. Too much work for me to put down my favorite songs in order though.
I only purchased three of their albums: Van Halen
Van Halen II
Women and Children First
I didn't like any of the Hagar material.
Favorite tunes:
Atomic Punk
On Fire
Somebody Get Me a Doctor
And the Cradle Will Rock
Everybody Wants Some
Ain't Talking 'bout Love
Runnin' With the Devil
Unchained
Panama
Hot for Teacher

I saw Van Halen only once in concert and that was on Sept 19/1979 at the Corral.
I was on the floor about 25 feet from the stage. So effin memorable.
So even though I liked Sammy, Diamond Dave will always have the upper hand IMO.
Runnin’ with the Devil
Panama
Eruption/You really got me
Ain’t talkin’ ‘bout love
Hot for Teacher
Jamie’s Cryin’
And the Cradle Will Rock
Unchained
I’m the One

HM to Atomic Punk as well ..
Top Jimmy has some really silky guitar too
Yeah it’s tough to choose. I’d probably switch a few of those out on any given day
I love Sammy Hagar's vocals, Montrose was one of my favourite albums when I was a teenager. My favourite Van Halen songs all had Diamond Dave as lead though.
I'm not a huge VH fan, but here are the songs I like from them
Hot For Teacher
Bottoms Up (first time I heard this was in the middle of the night on the radio driving by Kamloops)
Running With the Devil
Panama
I'm the One
On a related note, Sammy Hagar keeps appearing on AEW wrestling remotely to promote the tag team of Sammy Guevara and Jake Hager. You know, Sammy Hager? Get it? Ugh.

never much of VH fan, I could appreciate them technically but they never moved me emotionally much, that said I always appreciated that they covered the old John Brim song
