Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2020 - Round 2
It's time for the 8th annual Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking, but at a different time of year and certainly at a different time.
First a look back at previous years can be done with this handy link: Previous Results
Once again vote how you want. There are those that vote 100% on potential, some that vote 100% on the likelihood to see an NHL rink, others that apply a mix, some using the value in a trade. Completely up to you.
I'll run one a day until we are done, and then FlamesAddiction wants to do a one off list version to compare the results.
We start with 35 names so this should get us pretty close to a Flames camp.

Going with Zary.
2020 was a deeper draft and by many accounts we got a guy that some of the experts had in the top 15 at 24.

Zary for me...
He is a centre, and based on feedback from pro-scouts we should be excited.
His stats compare highly with other high-end picks from recent years.
Pelletier, Wolf or Petterson next

Zary would have probably been a late 1st/early 2nd in 2019 if he was born a couple of weeks prior.
He really killed it in the WHL this year, and should’ve easily been a top 15 pick.
Voting him as I view him as a solid NHLer one day.
The next vote is where it gets interesting for me.

How did Pelletier stagnate? Went from 1.36 to 1.44 pts/gm in draft +1.
And Zary hasnt even started his +1 season.

E: There's no "lack of love" with Pelletier, he's gotten second most votes in round 2.

Wondering when to vote for Mackey. He is 24, on a one year contract and so I expect will get a long look at camp. Really wonder what will happen for many players if AHL isn’t economically feasible this year.
This round, total tossup between the last two first round picks. Guess I’ll go with Zary as he came from a deeper draft and neither player yet to play outside of junior.

Zary improved more point wise because he went from draft -1 to draft year. Pelletier went up by almost the same amount from draft -1 to draft year. you have to analyze the draft season to draft season.
There are lots of reasons to go for Zary here but you have to compare point increases properly.
