Icon30 Panthers sign Gudas (3 yrs, $2.5 mil AAV) and Carter Verhaeghe (2 yrs, $1 mil AAV)

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Radko Gudas to FLA

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
now
Gudas in FLA is 3x$2.5M

David Pagnotta @TheFourthPeriod
UFA Carter Verhaeghe is staying in FL, but this time he's joining the Florida Panthers on a two-year worth I believe $2M contract. $1M AAV

I like the move for Florida, he's full of sandpaper.

I approve. We've needed a meanie back there for a while now. Can play decent defense and will rack up his share of suspensions since he's legitimately a POS.

Welcome.

Glad that POS stayed in the east. Seemed like a perfect oiler

Replaces Matheson’s toughness with lower term. Great move for Florida.

Welcome.

I wanted that POS for the Flames. Sandpaper and playing mean seem to help the team.

Seems like it is useful in the playoffs to have a player or two who don't care about the well-being of others.

Hopefully, for Florida they can get to the playoffs first.

He'll help get there. We simply don't have many defensemen who can win battles in corners and clear the front of the net. It's why Bobrovsky's numbers dipped so bad this year. Not much help in tight from the defensemen.

3 years at $2.5M is the rumour...that's pretty reasonable.

I would have been fine giving that up but my guess is Miami was a lot more attractive to Gudas than Calgary. Deal was signed pretty quick too, so guessing the interest was mutual.

Yeah, I would take him at that for sure.

Wasn't there a rumour a long time ago that he didn't want to play in Canada? I seem to recall something about that.

As nice as this signing is, it's not even the major need. The Panthers currently have 6 established NHLers signed at forward.

Huberdeau-Barkov-Hornqvist
Vatrano-Acciari-Connolly

Still lots to be done. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see them pick up Tyler Johnson from waivers.

Edit: Defense probably as thus:

Yandle-Ekblad
Stillman-Stralman
Weegar-Gudas
