Default Upd: Treliving says Brodie is "still in the mix" for the team

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
T.J Brodie sits 14th on TSN’s Free Agent Frenzy Top 100 list. Flames aren’t quite ready to cut him loose yet. Ongoing contract discussions with Calgary on the eve of free agency.

I'm pleased to hear this. Love TJ Brodie, and his chemistry with Giordano is the best way to assure we get the most out of our ageing Captain.

as far as UFAs are concerned, and the options available, I'd be up for just keeping Brodie.

Would prefer Barrie personally, but that is all dependent on what contracts end up looking like.

Id rather they keep Brodie, than going after Barrie. We don't have the cap space to go after Pietrangelo.

Come on Tre. Get'er done.

Brodie should be effective until he's 35-ish at least.

Hope he stays!! Very underrated for all the minutes he eats up.

Also Barrie is hot garbage in his own zone.

Found his form again this year and was excellent. Definitely a guy we need to keep with Gio aging, Hamonic leaving, Gus likely leaving and Forbort unknown. Valimaki the only certain one to get full time from the youth side. Lots of potentials there but still need vets.

This team definitely needs some changes but when I see the list of UFA defensemen, Brodie sure seems like a good choice. It's too bad he can't really contribute much on the PP, but overall I think he's a better player than Barrie.

If Pietrangelo or Krug aren't in the cards, I like Brodie.

All these UFA's will get paid so I wouldn't expect any great deals. And Flames are going to need to sign someone.

If Flames can keep Brodie, at least that negates the sting of not trading either him or Hamonic at the deadline. Still get to keep a good quality player, and then only lose dman with value for nothing, rather than two.

The only option better than Brodie is Pietrangelo, and he will cost a fortune - and I think whoever signs him is going to regret it big time, in a couple years.

Brodie is good, and letting him walk means we have to replace him. Which will almost certainly be a fail.

Barrie is not even close, for instance.

Just sign Brodie.

Around 5 million at 4 or under I'd probably keep Brodie.

I think the Flames need more O from the D and I also think another right hand shot in the top 4 would be helpful, so if the choice is between Brodie and Barrie at roughly the same price I probably lean towards Barrie.

He's also a year younger than Brodie, which is marginal I guess, but it's something.
