I knew he had been ill for some time, but this still stings.

Don't know if it was Eddie or Hendrix who had a bigger influence on rock guitar. Either way, Eddie was a titan.

I think he had bad cancer from smoking - had part of his tongue removed.

Yeah, his first diagnosis for throat cancer was back in 2000.

Really sad news. He was a big influence musically for lots of players and his rhythm and phrasing was as good or better than his lead work.

Bummer. I can’t help but think how many minds must’ve exploded when they first heard Vanhalen in 1978. The intro to “Ain’t talking about love” will always be one of my favourite guitar riffs.

The is absolutely a tough one for me. He is one of my idols for sure and I was lucky enough to be able to see 1984 at the dome.

Probably one of the best guitarists ever and his style was easily uniquely recognized

RIP Eddie.

There is a period of time, growing up, for most of us (all of us?) where music is something more, where it helps define who we are. For me (and probably for many of us), that was high school - particularly, grades 10 and 11.

And one of biggest albums of that period for me - maybe THE biggest - was Van Halen (their first album). Every note is etched into my soul.

I don't usually get too affected when celebrities die, it's not like I knew them. But this one definitely hits home.
