For me it's easily Berezan for his work on and off the ice in this city.

Andrew Cassels was a pretty good player, but had his worst years in Calgary

Ference was one of my favorites during the run, but I remember him more now for being a no good Oiler

Jokinen was a disappointment

I don't know who I want to vote for on this one

Agreed ...

Chiasson, Cassels, Jokinen, Ference and Berezan ... all good choices. Hathaway was a good player for Calgary too (and a good story).

So elimination ....

Taking out Jokinen and Cassels for tenure. Chiasson as well.

Down to Berezan and Ference for different reasons ... one a monumental goal (that he didn't score) and tenure, Ference tenure and an important part of the culture of the time.

Going Ference.

As an aside ... Dan Labraaten is one of the Flames first transactions and he made an immediate impact ... scored a hat trick early in his tenure. As a ten year old it sure seemed easy in the NHL. Just go out and get more good players whenever you want!

Hard to believe Chiasson has been dead over 20 years now. I always liked him in Calgary. Dummy.

This is one ugly list of many disappointments. I am looking at you specifically Jokinen and Cassels. Going Ference.

Cassels may have been one of the softest players ever to wear the Flaming C.
I was a big fan of Chiasson.
But how can you not vote for a CP member?

Expectations were so high with Jokinen, if his first couple seasons were as good as his final one it would be a different story for me. Best player on the list, but he had a sharp decline when coming here.

Maybe I'm overselling being on the 04 team but Ference was a rock back there in the playoffs. Losing Lydman and Gauthier put a lot more pressure on the Ference-Warrener pair and boy did they deliver. What a waste that Stuart trade was. Probably could have avoided the Anders Eriksson experiment without it and maybe those 07-09 teams do a bit better in the playoffs too. But hindsight I guess.

!
yes those are the 6 names I came up with- this is the just the pros and cons of a 'deep' number- for the votes where one or two guys wore the jersey for a long time the rest of the list is usually crap- here is a number where decent guys just took turns over and over

I look at this guys in different pairs
the playoff heroes (with local connections) Berezan, Ference
the 'name' centremen that arrived mid career Jokinen Cassels
the dmen Chiasson Ference
The footsoldiers Berezan Hathaway
the guys who came in 'big' trades Chiasson Jokinen

etc- in most of the pairings its hard to see an obvious winner (based on on ice play anyways)

in games played its kind of interesting- Jokinen is first, then Ference
Hathaway played more than most of the rest- surprisingly including Berezan

in the end I think my final 3 are
3. Berezan
2. Jokinen
1. Ference

I was undecided until the drive in this morning the radio guys were talking about an 04 playoff game and listed all the minutes played by the D- Ference was the most that night over 27 minutes- really I am giving this to him mostly for the 04 run, where he and Warrener became an essential 2nd pair (as nice a story as the "Doors" were there were nights they didn't play much

Ference also gains points for being on the forum, being an interesting dude outside of hockey and clearly was more important than we realized given the impact of his trade, oh and beating the Canucks

on the other hand he loses points for the Oiler thing and mostly the Stempniak affair

Because he turned into a filthy Oiler, Captained the Greasefire and started chucking elbows?

Sorry, there are few Cardinal sins you can commit to become persona non grata after serving the Flames faithfully and he apparently felt committed to going down the list and ticking every box.

I believe Jokinen and Ference both played nearly the exact same amount of games with the Flames

It sucked that Stuart didn't stay, but when he did not re-sign with the Flames, we got a conditional 4th round pick from Boston in the deal

That pick was T.J. Brodie
