Steven Speilberg steps down from directing Indy 5
I'd prefer this reunion wouldn't happen as Crystal Skull was terrible and a un charming train wreck.
Sounds like Speilberg has some things going on in his life and he's might be stepping away from directing.
With his adopted daughter being arrested for Domestic Assault and entering the porn industry its too much for any dad to handle.
But its time to let Star Wars Movies, and Indiana Jones movies and even Star Trek movies to go away for a while.

It's been 12 years since the last Indy film, so I'd say it already went away for a while. I have no problem whatsoever with them making one more flick with Ford in the role. I just hope they deliver a quality movie this time. Crystal Skull was all kinds of awful.
Rumors are that James Mangold might be stepping in to direct, which would be interesting. He's got a pretty great track record (Ford Vs. Ferrari, Logan, Walk the Line, Cop Land, 3:10 to Yuma). Maybe a new director is exactly what this franchise needs to give Indy a proper send-off.

If they are going to do another Indiana Jones movie it would be nice to include Harrison Ford so the sooner the better. As long as they bring in a quality director who has his/her finger on the pulse of the originals I'm on board. It's important that they remember that the first film that started it all wasn't a family friendly film as it had plenty of violence, dark themes, and great villains with some elements of humour. Last thing we need is another family friendly CGI actionfest where Ford is winking to the screen.

Ford has been signed on for a while now. Filming will apparently start in a few months, aiming for a 2021 release.

Harrison Ford, meanwhile, is still on the project. The actor recently made headlines speaking about the future of the franchise while promoting his latest film, “The Call of the Wild.”
He told “CBS Sunday Morning” this month that he was “going to start doing ‘Indiana Jones’ in about two months,” and then days later told HeyUGuys that the project is still facing “scheduling issues and a few script things” and that “we’re determined to get it right before we get it made.”

Hopefully the first scene in the movie is Shia LaBbeouf getting shot with a 1000 poisoned darts and falling into a volcano, only to be swallowed by a dinosaur.
Then we see Indiana turning to Marion and saying "Why do you keep blathering that he was my kid, that was not my kid"
Then role opening credits to the movie and we can pretend that Crystal Skull never happened.

Can we also pretend Temple of Doom never happened? Because that sucked too.

It would be box office suicide to even mention LaBeouf's name even if it was just a cameo.

Although both were bad movies Crystal Skull was less bad than Temple of Doom.
So far they are batting .500 with that franchise.

Strong bridge Lady that crap! it's not even close.
Temple of Doom is Return of the Jedi.
Crystal Skull isn't even Phantom Menace.

Temple of Doom was decent for its day, Crystal Skull was an abomination.

if I were to watch Temple of Doom for the first time now, I would probably dismiss it as typical over the top 80's racist/sexist action mess. but since it's imprinted into my childhood, I will probably be quoting it regularly for the rest of my life. there are just so many occasions when you can bust out with the "Chilled monkey brain/Snake surprise!!" or "You cheat Docta Jones! no fun, play with you no fun!"
I remember almost nothing about Crystal Skull other than how terribad the jungle chase is, and Cate Blanchett sounding like Natasha from the Bullwinkle cartoon. if they do decide to make yet another, they need to find a way to make Harrison Ford's involvement believable (no he shouldn't be the one jumping between trucks anymore), and use practical effects/stunts every damn way they can. think Fury Road type stuff as a template.

I loved the original three! They were such a part of my childhood. Crystal Skull was so bad. I have no interest in seeing another. Ford doesn't want to hand over the character or series to a younger cast. So what's the point? Are they going to be in 60s or 70s now and have him fight hippies?

I watched them all again this winter. I think some of you maybe haven't seen Temple in a few decades and are remembering watching it in your childhood.

Not sure if already mentioned but James Mangold is apparently the front runner to replace Spielberg.

what parts of ToD put it below Crystal Skull in your opinion? the only part I never really liked is how Indy's saved at the last minute by the British troops that nobody remembers were ever present. other than that though, any one of the kickass set pieces (bug tunnel/crush room, mine carts, rope bridge) are better than the entirety of Crystal Skull on their own.

Ford is 18 years older than Connery was when he appeared in The Last Crusade. I really wish they wouldn't keep dragging out these decrepit actors to play action parts. It's embarrassing.

There was supposed to be a scene where Indy (while under spell) convinces the officer and the sepoys that nothing was going on at the palace but Harrison Ford hurt his back and they had to rearrange the filming schedule and ran out of time to film it.
