I don't understand why Vancouver can't find a spot for him, he's clearly better than some of the players that they're keeping.

IMO Baertschi is an upgrade on most for the Oilers

Here's a weird/ maybe interesting proposition:

If we clear out some of our wingers (frolik, bennett, mangiapane) in a hall trade, could we pick sven up to fill that role?

@ Monahammer

Sven is nothing like the three players you mention.

Baertschi is already in the minors. Putting him on waivers again while in the minors is hoping that someone will claim him or perhaps spark some trade interest again. Maybe also to prove to the agent that no one is interested after he went public with wanting out yesterday.

He’s definitely too good to be in the minors, 23 points in 16 games.

More likely in a trade discussion some GM mentioned they were not willing to give anything decent but would claim him on waivers if they went that route.

Doubtful, if a team wants to go that route they can just trade him for future considerations. Claiming a player off waivers costs teams money.

Another horrible 1st round draft pick by Calgary. We suck at drafting, unfortunately.

Baertschi is the classic tweener. Too good for the AHL, clearly not good enough for the NHL.

He will be going the way of the Yak.

Monahan, Tkachuk and Backlund all say what’s up. All great picks at the spot we got them at.

I'd be using the past tense. Gaudreau, Mangiapane, Andersson, Brodie, Dube, Kylington all contributing as mid-late picks. Ferland and Fox also being big wins at the draft and a huge reason we currently have Lindholm and Hanifin. Monahan, Tkachuk, Backlund, Valimaki have all been excellent 1st rounders. If getting contributing NHLers like Baertschi, Bennett, or Jankowski qualifies as horrible, I'd say we're doing pretty well.

You know, even Jankowski at 21st that year wasn’t way outside what the others at that position have done. Maata was the consensus around there IIRC. And he has been a bit of a disappointment. The others from 21 onward are pretty underwhelming. Oddly, the picks above him are generally pretty good except for Yak, Reinhart and Koekkoek.

That leaves Bennett who for sure hasn’t lived up to his spot.
